Happy Birthday, Dad!

Wow, today is really a special day!  My dad is 92 years old and is amazing.  He is like a cat with 9 lives!  He has battled many different types of cancer and lived without a bladder for over 20 years!  There were several times when he was critically ill and not expected to make it, but he always proves the Drs. wrong!  Through all of this, he rarely complains but expresses how thankful he is!  Just like I said, he is amazing!

I had breakfast before 7 AM (way too early for this gal) with my Curvette friends where we celebrated my friend, Marcia's 65th birthday.  She brought us a quiz with questions about things that happened 65 years ago and then even had prizes for all of us.  What a fun time!

Ken left for breakfast with his siblings when I got back home and he enjoyed "catching up" with them on their spouses and children.  After a quick lunch, we were at Masonic Homes by 1 to play Pinochle with my mom and dad.  Playing cards is the best possible gift we could give my dad, for he that is his favorite thing to do and the 4 of us always have a good time.

When we returned home, Ken went for a long walk and I made us salads and pizza for dinner.  Ken spent the evening relaxing, watching TV, and reading, while I watched some TV, made some cards, and talked to Doloris.

We are looking forward to picking up Sam and Katelyn tomorrow morning and having them here at the apartment until Sunday.  It will be a fun time!

Fun-Filled Days Especially with Family!

Tuesday was a typical day.  Ken ran numerous errand, I posted on the blog, and then spent time making more cards.  What fun I am having!

We headed to Ephrata to stop at a local Farmer's Market and then did about 3 1/2 miles walking the Linear Trail.  They keep increasing its distance and in 2017 it should be completed that you can walk or bike from Lititz to Ephrata. We will be able to go via the trail to see Jamie's family.  How nice!!!  We went to Jamie's and walked with her to the bus stop to surprise Bria and Cali.  The next 4 hours were very special listening to Cali read, playing games with the girls, and then being invited to have dinner with them, and a delicious dinner it was!!!!!  Home in time to watch The Voice and make additional cards.   This was a good day!

Wednesday Ken got up early and drove to nearby Speedwell Forge to see if he could "spot" some of the unique birds that have been seen in that area.  He was back rather quickly without seeing any birds at all!!!!

After breakfast I left to pick up Mom for a day of craft shopping, since we both like to make cards and are always looking for some new ideas and supplies.  We went to Hobby Lobby and Michael's, stopping only for about 30 minutes to enjoy some delicious pizza.  We really had a fun day and I only got back to Lititz at 5:00.  Ken had kept busy all day with paperwork, trip planning, walking, and prepping dinner.  He grilled chicken and then we watched The Voice, but in different areas of the apartment.  He was reading while watching and I was enjoying making some new card creations.  Another good day!

Today, Thursday, we did our morning routine and Ken left to have breakfast with Gary and do a few more errands.  I did some wash, clean-up around the apartment, and then spent time at my desk - you guessed it, making more cards.  I am definitely hooked!!!!!

At 1:30 we drove to the Surgical Center in Lancaster for my routine cystoscopy. Not my favorite thing, but I am thankful it is quick and painless.  Unfortunately, Dr. Del Terzo found 3 or 4 small spots in my bladder that are of no major concern if removed.  So, at his suggestion, I will get the EKG and blood work done before we leave for Florida, but have the surgery after May 19.  He assured me, he knows how I think, that the growths are small and of little concern as long as we keep checking on a regular basis.  I was disappointed to have to deal with this again, but so thankful that it is a "problem" that can be treated easily and have good results.  I just wish these spots would "stay away"!

We took a walk around Lititz when we returned from the Surgical Center, had grilled filet and cod for dinner, and then drove to the Lititz Rec Center to watch the private swim lessons Bria and Cali have there on Thursday evenings.  Those girls work so hard at swimming and are like little mermaids.  PaPa and I were exhausted watching their 1 hour practice where they did more laps than I can even count.  We spent the evening relaxing after that hard workout!

Crazy Weather in PA!

I thought it is about time I "catch up" on what has been happening the last 4 days!  Let's just say it has been COLD and we even had snow!  What is that about?

Friday was a fairly uneventful day that consisted of a long walk, a trip to Costco, and a walk around Central Market in downtown Lancaster.  We hadn't been to that market "forever" and it really is a special place with lots of organic foods and meats and just a down right fun experience!  Ken spent time at his desk working on a plan for our trip to and from Florida, leaving here on April 30th and hopefully taking about 3 weeks to get back home.  Usually we are in a rush to get to Florida and return to Lititz, so this will be a fun trip!  We spent the remainder of the day at home "doing our thing" and enjoying!

Saturday we woke to a temperature of 34 degrees and heavy snow falling.  It was beautiful but who expects a snowstorm in April?  We did some cleaning and preparation for card club at our house this evening and went to Masonic Homes to play Pinochle with my parents.  There were some flurries when we left and we had about 3" on the ground, but when we got to E-town where my parents reside the ground wasn't even snow covered and they are only about 15 miles away!

Dad recently got his new "electric wheelchair" that was made specifically for him and he is so proud of it and the many useful features. We had fun playing cards and I know how grateful they are when we visit!  We were home for 1/2 hour to finalize preparations for card club and then met the 3 couples at a nearby restaurant for dinner.  We had a fun evening with these special friends only ending around 11.

Sunday morning it was only 21 degrees when we got up - WOW!  We drove to Church to hear another session in our current series, Running in Circles.  It was a phenomenal message regarding how we can't change people, only our attitudes towards them plus suggested dialog we could use to be much more effective.  You can hear the sermon on the LCBC website and I would highly recommend it.  It is one everyone can relate to.  At church we spent time with Jamie's family before having breakfast with our Small Group.  What a special morning!

It got to the mid 40's in the afternoon so we went for a long walk.  After dinner we went to our Small Group gathering and had another inspiration message from Andy Stanley, the course of study we are using for our current get togethers.

We awoke to rain on Monday morning but 41 degrees!  We spent the morning in our office and craft room again, Ken finalizing plans for our southern trip and I was busy making more cards.  The sun came out around 1:30 while we were doing a long walk.  It was beautiful and mild, finally!  Ken went to Celebrate Recovery and I started a camping album for the girls using the Costco website. It is very different than my digital program, but it should be good when I get used to it.

I have been using the chemo cream on my lips for over a week and boy are they getting sore.  They are starting to blister so it must be working.  I have 5 more nights to apply the cream and I will be glad when it is finished.  Eating and drinking can be a bit challenging!

A Rainy Cool Morning. Then Sun and In the 50's!

Ken and I were up at 7 and he left at 8 to have breakfast with Gary.  I doing some reading I started cleaning, my least favorite job.  I dusted the whole apartment and then made a pan of apple crisp, a dessert needed for couples card club at our house this Saturday night!

Ken did numerous errands after breakfast, including visiting Ed, a gentleman who handled many of Ken's settlements when he was in the Real Estate business.  Ed is in a nursing home at the present time trying to built strength while battling cancer.

Ken was back home by noon.  Again, we spent time in the office and then Ken went for a walk.  I was having trouble with my back today and decided it was not a good idea to go for a walk, so I made 3 more cards.  I think I am addicted to this craft again!

We made some necessary phone calls and then left at 4:15 to meet Rick and Joyce, who are in our small church group, for dinner at Gus's in Ephrata.  We really enjoyed our time with them.  She also brought me 3 more canisters of Chai - much needed, I was having withdrawal symptoms!

We were home to watch the finale of American Idol.  What a great show!  I thought the music was phenomenal.  Of course, I was making cards while watching since I love to multi task.  Just ask Ken!

Cold and Rainy Days! What Is That About???

Tuesday was another cold day, but sunny - 33 degrees again!  Ken took a walk (I just didn't want to go out in the cold) while I made breakfast for us.

I went to Jamie's at 10 for highlights and a much needed haircut.  The last time I had it cut was at her house in December.  It was LONG!!!!  We had some terrific discussions and I was thankful for the time we had together and for the great haircut.  I left there around 12:30 and did several errands.

Ken had been working at his desk most of the day.  Then he spent time on the phone with American Express trying to understand our new cards that we received since Costco will not be dealing with American Express after June.

I had conversations with Lanie, Nancy Savage, and Mom.  Nancy and Neil are camping at Pinch Pond until Hershey opens this weekend.  Her close friend, Marilyn, whom we had met in Florida last year, died recently.  She had cancer for several years and always had such a positive attitude, a dear lady!  Mom said that dad was so much better today since starting on the antibiotic.

We left at 5 and drove to Pine Grove, about 1 hour from our apartment, to meet Ernie and Noela.  We waited at the Hampton Inn until they arrived at 6:40.  It was so good to see them!  They had driven 9 hours today, so they were tired and hungry.  We went to the Red Lion Inn outside of Pine Grove, a recommendation of the lady at the hotel desk, and we had a very good dinner.

Very Special Friends!

We dropped them back at the hotel around 8:30 and after some hugs headed back to Lititz.  They are hoping to meet up with us in Utah some time after the middle of October and travel with us for about 6 weeks before we all head home for the Christmas Holiday!

Wednesday it was 24 degrees and very breezy when we got up.  I left at 6:40 to meet the Curvette ladies for breakfast in Ephrata.  We spent time planning our 4 day adventure to Watkins Glen the end of this month.  I was back home by 8:30 and Ken I shared our office space again.

After lunch, we took a long walk, getting our 10,000 steps.  I spent time on the internet checking out scrapbooking sites like Costco, Shutterfly and Snapfish. Not sure how I want to do albums for our granddaughters!

Ken grilled fish and chicken and after dinner he read and I spent time making more cards and watching American Idol.  Bed by 10:30.

2 special things happened today.  My dad was given the okay to use his new wheelchair all the time without any more training.  He is so happy to have such a comfortable and functional chair.  The other big thing - I became a great Aunt today.  Cindy's daughter, Heather, had an 8 lb. 1 oz. baby boy named Galen John Alexander Lee and will be called Jack.  Mother and Jack are doing well!

A Rainy, Cold, Day!

Ken was up early and read in the LR.  I had stayed up until midnight, so I was a late sleeper today - 8:15.  Wow!  It was raining and only in the 30's.  It rained off and on all day and stayed in the 40's.  Where is that nice Florida weather???

We enjoyed some flax pancakes with lots of delicious fresh fruit for breakfast and then both of us did some work at our desks.  We left at 11:10 and Ken drove me to ladies card club at Kathy's house in Ephrata.  So good to be with these ladies again.  I only get to 2 or 3 of the 8 card clubs per year and I am so thankful they still include me. We have a lot of fun playing double deck Pinochle. We used to play Monday evenings, but since most of us are retired and getting "older" playing during the day is better.  So we meet at 11:30 and finish around 3:15 after having dessert, tea, and coffee.  This group has been playing cards together for 30+ years.  Wow!

Ken picked up our finished tax forms at the accountant and then enjoyed lunch with Kevin.  They always have a good time when they get together.  He went back home after their lunch and then returned to Ephrata to pick me up when our card club ended.

Ken had a short night, so he read and took a long nap.  I did some card making and my mojo was working!  We had leftovers for dinner and then Ken left at 6:30 for his Celebrate Recovery meeting!

Doloris called to ask how my father was doing!  She is a faithful reader of our blog and I so appreciate her interest and concern for our family.  Fred and she are special friends!  I did talk to mom and they started dad on a strong antibiotic today for he has another case of cellulitis.  He has no energy and just wants to rest.  But, he did go to breakfast and lunch and had a session in his room with PT learning more about his new motorized chair.  He just got this brand new chair on Wednesday and after taking many measurements, it was made specifically for him. He has to have a week or two of training before they allow him to have it all the time.  Dad said it has so many gadgets and buttons that it is definitely necessary to have training.

I also talked with Noela.  Tonight they are camping in Roanoke Rapids and 1st thing tomorrow morning a gentleman is coming to their CG to winterize their 5th wheel.  Then they are planning to arrive at the Hampton Inn near Pine Grove, PA for a night's stay.  So, we are hoping to either meet them tomorrow evening for dinner or on Wednesday for lunch.  She will keep in touch.  We are excited to have the opportunity to see them again.

I worked on the girls camping books while watching The Voice.  Unfortunately my digital program, Scrapbook Factory, which I have used for years, is not working properly and is so frustrating.  Ever time I am ready to save a page it tells me I don't have enough memory and all my work is lost.  I need to come up with a different way to scrapbook.

Friday, Saturday and Sunday - More Fun Days!

Ken and I were up by 5:40 - he left for a walk and I headed to Ephrata at 6:40 to meet my Curvettes ladies for breakfast.  So good to see them again!  Ken and I each made a phone call to Bria to sing "Happy Birthday" to her.  It was her 9th birthday.  Boy, how the time flies!

I was back to the apartment by 8:30 so Ken could have the car to meet Gary for breakfast.  We certainly have to coordinate our schedules to make this car situation work, but it is a good "challenge".

I spent the rest of the morning and all afternoon making cards by either rubber stamping or doing the iris folding technique.  Unfortunately I didn't seem to have much creative "juices" flowing.  It was challenging.  I believe jewelry making is more my thing!

Ken spent a lot of the day running errands - breakfast, talking to the folks where we have stored Waldo to see if they would have a space for him this summer, an appointment with our accountant, and then to Jones Honda to have the CRV inspected.  He returned to the apartment by 3:15.  He made salads for dinner and told me to keep working on my crafts.  What a guy!

We met Fred and Doloris at 10,000 Villages at 6:20 to visit while listening to the The Cravens Family Band. It was a nice evening, but short.  We left at 7:45 and went to Jamie's to have dessert to celebrate Bria's birthday.  It was a fun time!

Saturday we left at 7:45 to meet fellow high school graduates for breakfast. There were only 7 of us that "showed up", but we had such a good time.  We must have, because we only left at 10:30.

We came home and after lunch, we spent the afternoon playing Pinochle with my parents at Masonic Homes.  It was another fun time and they were grateful for the opportunity to play cards.  It was a great day for the ladies - we won all 3 games.

We were home by 5 and went for a walk around town.  After dinner, Ken read and I worked on digital scrapbook pages of our camping adventures with our granddaughters in 2015.  TV was on in the background, but we really weren't paying much attention!

Today, Sunday, we went to Church, saw Jamie and her family, and had breakfast with 2 of our small group couples.  Life is good.

We were home by 1:00 and Ken spent the afternoon working at his desk while I was in the same room at my desk making cards.  I stamped them today and my creativity was much better.  I actually liked what I designed.

Bless his heart, Ken made supper - salads, wild rice, and grilled salmon and filet mignon.  So good.  We also took a walk even though it was only in the low 40's and so windy.  What happened to our Spring weather????

We watched 60 minutes and then the ACM awards.  Again, it was on in the background while I did more digital scrapbook pages and Ken did some reading. My scrapbook program was working well for a while, but then it decided it didn't want to save the pages when I had them completed.  So frustrating.  Most of what I did tonight was lost!!!

Did talk to Noela today and they will be staying at a hotel near Pine Grove, PA (about 1 hour from us) on Tuesday night, so we hope to meet for a late lunch or early dinner.  We will be so happy to see them again!

Mom also called me around 10 to say that dad did not seem himself today.  The nurses felt that way too!  He is so tired and sleeps a lot.  They are going to have the doctor "check him out" tomorrow.  Doesn't have a fever, but his belly is very red and cellulitis could be a possibility.  Infections are always a concern!
