We cleaned up, packed the beach bag and some snacks and drinks, and left Waldo by 8:30. We stopped to say our good-byes to Cindy and John before they leave Pine Island later today to go to a CG about 40 minutes from here. We will see them again for 2 full weeks before we all head home, but we wanted the chance to say good-bye for now!
We were on our way to Nokomis Beach by 8:45 making a stop at K Gas for drinks and then at Detwilers Produce near Venice for fruits and veggies. Ken had a good conversation with Kevin while I shopped. By 11:10 we were walking onto Nokomis Beach where we met up with Fred and Doloris from back home. So good to see these special friends. We always have a great time when we are together! We enjoyed sitting on the beach just "catching up on life". We did a little walking, looking for shark's teeth and shells, but mostly we just enjoyed chatting.
Looking for shark's teeth, but only found a few! |
So many shells on the beach including whole ones and some beautiful pieces! |
Fred and Doloris enjoyed walking along the beach! |
The seagulls liked them being there too! |
Well, maybe they liked Doloris better than Fred! |
You have to love the glistening water! |
It was a beautiful day on the beach with lots of sunshine and a bit of a breeze, but as the time passed, that air got rather chilly. I was glad I had a sweatshirt with me cause I really needed it. By 3, I was really hungry, cold and ready to leave the beach.
Everyone agreed and we drove on the beautiful Casey Key Road arriving at the Casey Key Fish House for "lupper". This place gets so busy and even at that time, we had to wait about 15 minutes to be seated. Doloris was in all her glory when she saw they had soft shell crab on their menu. She said it was positively delicious. Fred enjoyed the red snapper.
Fred and Doloris were excited to be back at the Fish House. We had brought them here last year when they visited! |
What an extensive dinner menu - so much fish. Maybe that is why it is called a Fish House - Dah! |
Soft shell crabs, carrots, squash and rice. What a meal! |
We walked along the dock after finishing dinner and sat on the adirondack chairs overlooking the intracoastal waterway. What a beautiful area!
Not a bad place to sit and relax! |
What a life! |
These racing shells boats or sculls, are stored across the road from the Casey Key Fish House and there a many of them. It was fun to watch them row in unison. Takes a lot of training and stamina! |
Life is Good!!!! |
Regretfully, we said our good-byes to Fred and Doloris and by 6 we were headed back to Pine Island, about a 1 1/2 hour drive. We did sop at a Wal-Mart for a few groceries! We were at Waldo by 7:45, put the groceries away and by 8 we were watching American Idol. Ken went to the BR to do some reading and I worked on the blog.
It was a fun day, but by 10:00 I was ready for bed. So glad we had a chance to be with Fred and Doloris. Tomorrow we meet Ernie and Noela at 9:30 to drive to Sanibel Island. It will be another fun day!
It was a great day! Thanks for sharing it with us and making it even more special! (Doloris)
