After an awful night of very little sleep and heavy rain from 12 to 1, Ken and I were both awake at 1:30 and decided to get up and getting going for the long drive home. By 2 we were leaving the CG for our 1100 mile trip and it was very dark, but thankfully not raining. We expected to go through rain during a lot of the drive, but fortunately, we were wrong!
The drive through Florida went extremely well with very little traffic (Dah, it was very early!) and no rain! We decided to stop at exit 3 in Georgia, St. Mary's, to have breakfast at a Denny's. By then it was 7:30 and we were hungry. We had stopped for coffee and cappuccino earlier.
We made several bathroom and gas stops and enjoyed a quick lunch at Wendy's. I also had opportunities to talk to Cindy and my mother. Dad got the flu and has been confined to his room for the last 3 days. He is starting to feel better, but still has a way to go!!
All of the 1100 mile drive went well except for the last 3 or 4 hours, especially around DC. It started to pour and there were at least 6 or 7 accidents along the way! And the traffic - we have never been involved in that much traffic in that area. It was bumper to bumper and so many slow downs - crazy!!! We were so thankful when we finally got to I-83 in PA. Ken was so relieved to be in less traffic that he stopped for a treat at a Chick-Fil-A - one of their Christmas Peppermint Milkshakes. He bought a large and shared about 1/3 of it with me and that was our dinner!
We were back in Lititz at 10:30 after being on the road for 20 hours and I only drove 1 1/2 hours. Ken did an amazing job. We quickly unloaded the car, put a few things in their proper place, and were in bed by 11:15. We did a little reading before calling it a Long Day, but so thankful and blessed to be home safely!
