We arrived at their home by 8 and off we went in their car to Mt. Washington in New Hampshire about a 2 hour plus drive! We did stop at McDonald's for a bathroom break and to get drinks. It rained lightly most of the drive, with only a few moments of dry! When we got to the top we went inside the visitor's center in the White Mountain National Forest to hopefully view Mt. Washington. Mt. Washington is home of the "world's worst" weather and has recorded temperatures as low as -47 degrees and winds as high as 231 MPH, a world record! Unfortunately it was way too foggy and very chilly at that elevation. We shared some cookies and enjoyed the view, at least what we could see! It would have been gorgeous on a clear day.
Not a great day for driving or viewing the mountains, but we got to spend time with Burt and Pat. |
The higher we got, the better the leaf color! |
It was so cold at the Visitor Center! |
Coming back down the mountain! |
We drove back down the mountain stopping at Echo Lake, which is a favorite beach area in the summer months. By then it had stopped raining (not for very long) so we walked around part of the lake. The large, rocky background was beautiful as well as the trees whose leaves were very colorful and reflected in the pond.
I love the reflection in the water! |
Large rock formation in the background where rock climbing is often done! |
A nice place to walk and it WASN''T raining! |
Wow! |
Then it was time for lunch at the Muddy Moose Restaurant with its rustic interior and delicious food. Ken finally got to see a moose, even if it was a head hanging on the wall!
A cute name! |
There he/she is, Ken! |
What a happy group! |
We did stop at Chocorua Lake for additional photos (but it was raining again) and on to the LL Bean Outlet before arriving back at their home by 5:30. We really appreciated all the driving that they were willing to do today to show us another great area. We thanked them for spending so much time with us and said our good-byes until we see each other in Florida around the end of this year.
It was a bit hazy!! |
We drove right back to Wilbur and it was only 61 degrees inside - time to turn on the heat! I did my devotions, worked on my blog, and downloaded photos, and watched The Voice! Ken spent time checking his e-mails, Facebook, etc. We were in bed by 9:45 after a fun-filled day with special friends! Thanks, Burt and Pat, for making our time in your special area a memorable one!
