We got on our bikes and started our ride through the park, stopping along the way to check out certain areas to see the wildlife including gorgeous birds and usually lots of alligators. Because of the heavy rains we had several weeks ago, the water was high and the banks were not exposed for the alligators to enjoy sunning so we only saw about 6 or so.
Looks like Old Florida! |
So Peaceful! |
One large alligator! |
The roseate didn't appear to be frightened by the alligator! |
Blue heron! |
Egret! |
Immature heron! |
Immature Ibis! |
Limpkin! |
But, bingo, we did get to see 2 roseate spoonbills, Ken's favorite bird. They really are so colorful and beautiful.
Their coloring is amazing! |
What a "funny" bill! |
We ate our packed lunches and then back on our bikes to head to the Canopy Trail.
Lots of Spanish moss throughout the park! |
Ernie and Noela walked the Nature Trail and Ken and I went on the Canopy Trail because I love to walk across the suspension bridge which is 25 feet above ground and extends 100 feet. Then we climbed the 74 foot tower to see the spectacular view of the treetops and wetlands.
I love walking the suspension bridge and making it rock! (Gets Ken excited!) |
Quite a view from the top of the tower! |
We left the park around 2:30 and drove to the Red Bug Slough because someone we met at Myakka said there were roseate spoonbills there. It was a bit out of our way and unfortunately there were no roseates but a nice area!
We arrived back at the CG by 5 and after dinner, I went to play pickleball. I am having such a wonderful time playing in the evenings with a great group of people and I feel like I am definitely improving. Ken went to Celebrate Recovery. I enjoyed watching the amazingly talented people on America's Got Talent. Ken watched it with me when he returned. We were in bed by 10 after a wonderful day!
