Day 6 - A Travel Day to San Antonio

After a somewhat restless night, Ken and I were up at 5:45 and got ready for leaving Louisiana.  By 7 the 4 of us were leaving the campground and on our way to San Antonio.  We expected to go through some heavy rains today, but we were fortunate - it never happened.

We took Interstate 10 the entire trip, going through Houston.  Wow, was that a busy area, but the guys did a great job driving.  We did stop at the Visitors Center when we entered Texas and were able to get some great information! We passed many huge oil refineries along the way and did get to view the beautiful skyline of Houston.  We arrived at the CG in San Antonio around 2:45 and Ken filled up our propane tank.  We had driven 400 miles!  This is a very nice CG with stoned, level sites and lots of trees and grass. When you walk out of the entrance to the CG you are on the River Walk.  It looks so beautiful and we are anxious to walk and bike it.

We have arrived, or so I thought.  There are 880 miles on Route 10
to get across Texas.  This is one big state!!!!!!!

This beautiful walkway was behind the welcoming center
on Route 10 when you enter Texas.  Amazing!!

Never heard of an alligator snapping turtle, but this is what
they look like.  You would think it is an alligator if you only
saw the top of its shell in the water!  They keep their mouths open
to attract fish  because that '"little thing" in their mouth looks
like a worm!

We are holding our Texas information bag of pamphlets and
flyers.

We passed many huge oil refineries but I am not too good
at getting pictures through the window when Ken is driving!
(It has nothing to do with his driving but lots to do with the
photographer!)

If Chuck would just move his motorhome over to the left
a little bit, I could get a good photo of the Houston skyline!

Well, that's better.  Just that slight move of the motorhome
really helps this photographer!

Roads, roads and more roads!  Which way shall we go???
Just follow the large motorhome!!!!

We got set-up for our 6 day stay here.  Both the motorhomes and our cars were filthy from the drive.  Ken and I both felt tired so we took a short nap.  After seeing the local weather we went over to Chuck and Melissa to discuss the forecast of severe storms and a possible tornado tomorrow.  Ken and I are not used to those kind of forecasts.  Living in Tennessee, Chuck and Melissa do not get as "anxious" when hearing those words.  So, we are just going to wait and see, but Ken did charge his weather radio just to be pro-active!

After we both had dinner in our motorhomes we got together to play Pinochle and Skip-Bo.  Tonight the men were victorious.  (Actually we thought we should let them win after the hard work of all that driving they did today!)  We ended game night at 10.

I did talk to my sister and my mother today.  Dad had his cat scan for his throat, but we won't have any results for several days.  Hopefully the problem is just a build-up of scar tissue.  Yesterday was his 91st birthday, which is just amazing.  He is like the Eveready Bunny - he just goes on and on!!!

Looking forward to our time in San Antonio and love our location next to the River Walk.  This is Festival Week here and it will be very crowded, but there will be lots of special events.  Should be fun and interesting!

  1. We absolutely loved Texas! The River Walk was so amazing! We hated the traffic! Just seeing the pictures again gives me the hebegebee's! Of course, that is when we got lost and ended up in downtown at 5:00! Those highways still scare me! So glad you are having a wonderful time! I told Neil this after noon that I am ready to go again...he agreed!
