Since it wasn't raining and was only predicted to start after lunch, the four of us decided to walk on the River Walk which is adjacent to the CG - so convenient! What a beautiful, wide cement path that goes for 10 miles. The CG is at mile marker 5 so we went about 2 1/2 miles and then turned around and returned to the CG. It started to "sprinkle" just when we got back to the CG - good timing!
This is CG were we are staying in San Antonio. If you look closely you can see the Mexican Restaurant across from the entrance! |
The campsites are very nice, but a bit close! |
Lots of rocks along the path! |
.....and on we go |
Little sloping areas for the kayakers! |
Saw this turtle along the walkway! |
It had been warm and rather humid when we walked so showers were needed before leaving to have lunch at a local authentic Mexican Restaurant. But before that, Chuck decided he needed to wash his CRV - we really couldn't see out the windows! Melissa found a drive through car wash about 2 miles from the CG - Ken was jealous! He spent the same amount of money to wash his CRV and had to do it himself. We just sat in Chuck's car watching the washing be done! But, Ken felt better at the end when we saw the results of the drive thru. It did a poor job! Go Ken!
We headed to the Mexican Restaurant across from the CG and what a delicious meal at such a low price! Ken and I had the daily special of 2 chicken soft shell tortillas, refried beans, rice, and a small salad and it was yummy. It even included the large iced tea and a tea to go for $5.99! Imagine that!
Loved this restaurant! |
Looks good enough to eat, right????? So much food for so little money! |
From there we drove to a local Costco for a few items and for Ken to get a refill on his medicine. It really rained on the way back, but not the severe thunderstorms they had warned us about. Amazingly, the heavy severe storms went around us. We felt so fortunate. Then on to a unbelievable grocery store called HEB! The produce was the real attraction at the store. So much variety and at incredibly low prices.
Back to the CG and Ken and I made a couple more CG reservations for the latter part of our trip. He also took the time to wipe off the CRV to get rid of some of "streaking". By then it was 7 and time for our nightly card games. Before we started playing the 4 of us did some research on campgrounds near Carlsbad and Deming. We reached a decision on which CG's we wanted to stay in and will make the reservations tomorrow. Then the games began with the men winning 2 and the women winning 2! It was a fun evening.
Tomorrow we play to do more exploring in downtown San Antonio, but we will have to do it in the morning for they predicting more rain and storms in the afternoon! We are hopeful that the severe storms will go around us like they did today!
