What a Special Day!

This was a positively gorgeous day with lots of sun, low humidity, and temperature of 78.  Perfect camping day.

After a relaxing morning, we rode with the Martins to visit the grounds of Mohunk Mountain House, about 30 minutes from the CG.  A neighboring camper had told us you can get an hour free pass to tour the grounds if you just ask.  We had stopped by yesterday and asked (they do not offer that information) and they said if we called 1st thing tomorrow morning, we could probably get a time that we could have an hour pass.  It is only offered Mon thru Thurs. and fortunately we were able to get in at 1:00 when we called today.  Normally you buy a day pass for $20.00, but we wanted to check it out before making that commitment.  What an unbelievable resort type lodge place that was originally build in the 1860's.  It looks like a huge castle and offers all kinds of amenities including boating, golf, horseback riding, tennis, ice skating, biking, lots of spa activities and services, etc.  Lunch is a buffet that costs 71.00 per person - wow!  We spent our time hiking the 1/2 mile+ trail to the observation tower that overlooks the valley and mountains and where you can see 5 different states.  It was incredible.  We all agreed that it would be well worth the $20.00 to hike many of the trails around the hotel/lodge.  We would also love to stay there one night for some very special occasion.

The Mohunk Mountain House!

As we walked the trail to the overlook tower, we had some
great view of the Lodge!

This is the tower we climbed at the top of the mountain!

The mountain laurel was in full bloom!

This becomes the outdoor ice skating rink in the winter!

From there we went to Robibero Winery for wine tasting.  Very nice winery with some wines that both Ken and the Martins enjoyed.  I just watched the wine tasting, since wine is not my favorite.

We were back at the CG  by 4:30 and the Frankhousers has arrived around 1:30.  So good to have them here.  We had a Happy Hour and then made supper over the open fire.  S'mores to follow.

So good to be camping with friends again.
