Thursday, New Year's Eve

We were up at 7 and Ken began the 2nd round of his colonoscopy prep - such fun!  He had a bellyache most of the night and had trouble sleeping.

I did 2 loads of wash and some clean-up around the house.  Ken spent some time at his desk.  I left to pick-up the Happy Happy Happy decorated cake for Samantha, Lanie, and Jamie's January birthdays.  We are celebrating on Saturday, but the bakery closed at 3 today and will not be open again until Monday.

When I got back home, I packed up all my jewelry "stuff" to take to Florida. Then it was 12:15 and time to leave and drive to the Health Campus in Lancaster for Ken's procedure.  Our biggest concern was his coughing issue and whether they will allow him to go ahead with the test.  The 1st 20 minutes after he went back, I was "sweating bullets" for I knew there was a question with his cold/sinuses and after doing the prep, he certainly wanted to have the procedure today!  After listening to his chest and it was clear, they started the colonoscopy.

I went back to him at 1:45 and he was already awake and excited to go home. All went extremely well.  He did have one small polyp removed, but the Dr. said it was of no concern.  Because of Ken's father dying of colon cancer at age 53 Ken will have to go back in 5 years as a precaution.

We were so relieved that Ken was able to have it done today before we headed to Florida and we were thrilled with the results.  It felt like a weight lifted off of our shoulders.  Now we can get really excited about heading to Florida and the packing can begin in earnest.  We are so blessed!

We stopped for some food for Ken and were home by 3.  I did some cleaning and then we both rested for about 1/2 hour.  Got to the New Year's Eve party with our 4 couple card club group at 6 and had such a fun evening.  We have been together on New Year's Eve for at least 20 years and always have a great time.  This year instead of card playing, we enjoyed a long game of Dominoes. We had a toast at midnight, finished our game, and were home by 1:15.

Can't believe another year has passed.  2015 was certainly a special year for us. We spent so much traveling in Waldo and sharing life with many special friends and enjoyed lots of fun and memorable times with our family.  We have every reason to Celebrate Life Daily!

Tuesday and Wednesday in Lititz!

Samantha and Katelyn were awake at 6:30, left the room to go to the bathroom, and then returned to their bed where the giggling and laughter began.  So much fun to just listen to them.  We had told them they had to stay in bed till 7, so as soon as 7 appeared on the clock, they were out of the room .

They played while watching The Lion King (I am really not sure that they saw very much of it!).  I made them pancakes and bacon for breakfast and PaPa got them fruit.  They were so good the entire time they were with us.

We drove them to Jamie's house to play with Bria and Cali until Lanie arrived to take them home!  While I was there, Jamie cut my hair and it certainly needed it.  I left there around 11 and drove to my friend Polly's house to pick up my Christmas containers.  We chatted for about 45 minutes and then I headed home.  By then I was feeling tired and draggy, probably having done too much yesterday.  I thought I had "turned the corner" but I felt worse again.  I did get all our Christmas decorations back in the storage bins and put all my normal decorations back in place!

I had planned to go with Ken to a memorial service for the husband of Ken's former yoga teacher, but by 5:30 I was too tired and achy.  So, I stayed home and rested.  He returned at 8:30 and I was still resting.  So thankful I had decided not to go.

We were in bed by 10 - rather Ken was in bed.  I slept on the couch again!  His colonoscopy is scheduled for Thursday, and I don't want him getting sick!

Today I was up at 6 and at Bright's in Ephrata by 7 to have breakfast with my Curvette friends.  They were kind enough to let me chose the restaurant as this will be the last time I will be with them until Easter!  I miss this special group of friends and supporters when I am traveling!  I think just being with them helped me feel so much better today.

When I got home Ken was leaving for a walk.  Then we spent the morning running errands - Costco, Target, Dollar Tree, and the grocery store.  We returned home by lunch time, but since it was Ken's "prep day", he is not eating!  He loaded the Christmas storage bins (only 4 of them) in the CRV and drove them to our friend Jackie's house to store until next Christmas.  He also got the car washed for our trip to Florida!

I spent the afternoon making jewelry which is something I haven't done for quite awhile.  I definitely was feeling better!  Ken worked at his desk and then took a nap, since he couldn't eat and he was getting hungry!

We spent the evening watching TV and I worked on the computer.  Ken spent some of his time in the bathroom!!!!  I did talk to my sister Cindy 2X today! They left at 3:30 this morning and drove to Cape LeJeune, NC to pick up their Motorhome, Harvey, that was stored there and then set it up on a campsite there before heading on to Florida in a few days.  The trip went well and Harvey was fine!

Ken was in bed by 10:30 and I was back on the couch!!!!!

Special Time with the Little Ones!

Ken went to have breakfast with his friend, Gary, while I got ready for the day and then prepared for the sleepover here with Samantha and Katelyn.  Ken was back by 9:45 and w drove to Jamie's house.  Lanie was there with her girls and in no time at all the 4 girls had their coats on and were ready to leave with Grandma and PaPa.

We headed to the bowling alley only to find that it didn't open until noon and it was only 10:30.  So the girls wanted to go to our apartment to get bread to feed the ducks and head to the Lititz Park.  That is what we did!  It was rather cold and windy, so we didn't stay very long but the ducks appreciated that we came to feed them.  From there we walked to Wilbur Chocolate Company to get a few samples and just look around.  Now we were hungry, so we went to a local pizza shop for some of the best pizza I have had for a long time.  While we waited for our food, Ken walked to the Post Office to have our mail forwarded while we are in Florida!  It really is going to happen!!!!

The girls like to pretend they are statues when standing on
the large rock in front of our apartment!

We had so much fun with the girls during lunch and when walking around Lititz. Then it was time to return to the bowling alley.  What a hoot to watch these little ones enjoy being together and try their best at bowling.  One game was enough, especially when we mentioned going to McDonald's for ice cream.

Thank goodness for bumpers in the gutters!

Cali was one happy bowler!

Samantha too!!!!

They really enjoyed the bowling and their time together!

The McDonald's in Ephrata wa recently rebuilt after a fire that destroyed the previous building.  The girls were fascinated by the table top that had different colored neon spots of light on it that could be changed when you waved your hand over the spots.

We decided Jamie should put in
one of these tables when she
remodels her kitchen!!!

We returned Bria and Cali to their house around 2:30 and then we took Samantha and Katelyn to our apartment for the sleepover.  Ken took a short nap while I played with the girls - legos, coloring, and some hide and seek. After dinner Ken left for a meeting at church and the girls had fun playing in the tub. Then we watched Jungle Book.  By 8 they were in bed and by 9 I told them it was time for the talking and laughter to end.  (They were having a good time!)

I slept on the couch again so Ken would not get whatever I have that is keeping me tired and draggy!

Saturday and Sunday After Christmas!

We were up by 6:45 and my sinuses were full and I sounded terrible!  After showering I felt a bit better and decided to go on with the day as planned.

Neil and Nancy Savage, fellow campers, arrived here at 8:15 and we gave them a tour of our apartment.  Then the 4 of us drove to Knight and Day Diner to have breakfast and share what has been going on in our lives.  It was so good to spend time with them, for we hadn't seen them since this summer.

We parted ways at 10:15 and Ken and I went back to the apartment and packed up food for lunch at Masonic Homes with Mom, Dad, Cindy, and John.
Jamie, Dane and the girls were there to visit my parents when we arrived.  They had plans for lunch so they all sat with us while we ate the food we had brought with us.  It was nice to be able to have a private area at the home for us to have a meal together.  All of us had such a nice visit and good meal.

The ladies and little gals spent time working on a jigsaw puzzle while the men did some talking.  Ken and I had gotten Dad his Military Records mailed to him from the Archives and they were enjoying going through all of the papers and info.  Dad is so happy to have that information.

Jamie's family left at 1:15 and then John, Cindy, Mom, Dad, Ken and I played card games.  It was a fun afternoon, only leaving around 5:15.  My parents do very well for their age!

Bria and Cali with my Dad.....

and then with my Mother!

My mother and dad look great for 91 and 86.

By the time we got home I was tired and achy again, so I spent most of the evening playing games on the I-Pad.  I watched the Eagles lose and then slept on the couch so I would not breathe on Ken (after all, we are hoping he can have his colonoscopy on Thursday) nor keep him awake with my coughing!

Today, Sunday, we did not have a Church Service , but our small group decided to get together for breakfast.  I decided I should stay home and rest and also not be spreading this to other folks.  Ken left at 8:45 and I went back to bed and rested for another 2 hours.  Felt better when I got up and showered.  Ken returned at 11:15 after a fun filled breakfast with our church group.  I was sorry I wasn't part of it!

I did some necessary things to get ready to leave for Florida like stopping the newspaper, making an extra night's reservation at Lazydays, and ordering some sun protective clothing while in the sunshine and on the beach.  I know I have to start taking better care of my skin if I want to avoid having more pre-cancer spots!  This getting old has its challenges!

Ken took a walk and then we watched the frustrating Steelers Game.  At halftime we both took a walk since it was almost 70 degrees and the sun was shining.

We watched more football and Ken made us supper.  What a guy!  I spent time working on this blog and trying to "catch up".

I planned to make some jewelry today, but I just didn't feel like it.  I don't get sick very often, but I certainly didn't feel very peppy today!  Hopefully tomorrow I will have a lot more energy!

Christmas Day!

Christmas Day was rather relaxing for Ken and It I really didn't feel the best.  We were at Jamie's house by 9:30 to see what the girls had gotten from "Santa".  Jamie and Dane were already busy putting together more Legos! These sets, the Shopping Mall and the Pop Star Tour Bus had many more pieces than the ones we had done yesterday. Wow!

We left there around 11:15 and drove to Lanie's to see what Samantha and Katelyn had gotten from Santa.  They were enjoying the huge Barbie house and the I-Pad with many games downloaded!  Lanie treated us to salads and her delicious white chicken chili.

After lunch, the girls went to their rooms to sleep or just relax and the 4 of us played 3 games of Skip-Bo with the women winning 2 out of 3.  It was a fun time.

We left there at 4 and came right home.  I was feeling tired and achy so it was time to put on the jammies and do some relaxing.

We were in bed rather early.

Family Celebration on Christmas Eve Day!

Didn't feel 100% when I got up on Thursday, but not too bad.  We got ready and drove to Jamie's house for our family Christmas Celebration!  So nice to have the 10 of us all together and Jamie is always a great hostess!

We had some time to chat while "brunch" was cooking and then were entertained by the 4 granddaughters who did a talent show for us.  Then we enjoyed a delicious brunch complete with mimosas, fresh fruit and incredible homemade cinnamon rolls.

Samantha enjoyed singing for us!

So did Bria with her cousin, Katelyn listening!  Katelyn was
actually the emcee!!

A delicious brunch in Jamie's sunroom!
After cleaning up, it was time to exchange Christmas gifts.  It is fun to watch the excitement of the little ones.  Ken and I had gotten our gift from the girls when we had returned from Florida in December - a 40" Smart TV.  What a surprise and it certainly was appreciated.

Opening presents in the Living Room!

Sam loved her purse with all the goodies inside!

Cali was happy with the limousine Lego set!

Katelyn will have fun painting a wooden
 jewelry box!

Bria was happy with her game of Life!

Jamie got in on the festivities too!

The ladies spent at least 1 1/2 hours putting Legos together.  They can be rather tedious, but the girls certainly love them.  This year's theme was the Rock Star series, so there was a stage, backstage set, and the limousine!

The ladies were in deep concentration putting all the Legos

Then it was time to dance to the CD Lanie had gotten Bria and Cali for Christmas.  Even the mommies got in on the action.  They had so much fun competing against each other.

The sisters get very competitive when dancing!

Way to go girls!!!!!

The men spent time outdoors deep frying the Christmas turkey!  What a perfect day to be outdoors due to the record warm temperature of 70 degrees - crazy! Again, the meal was delicious.  Deep fried turkeys are the best!  When we finished eating, Jamie told the girls to pick their favorite color crayon and they were supposed to start drawing on the wall between the dining room and the kitchen.  1st they had to hold up their right hands and promise that they would only color on that wall and never, ever on any other walls!  They are going to be redoing their kitchen right after the New Year and that wall will be coming down!

What a Meal!!!!

Bria, Cali, Samantha, and Katelyn loved drawing on the

The celebration ended around 8 after being together for 10 hours - what fun!

Lanie had brought these fun Christmas props and we had
a good time using them!

So cute in their Christmas Jammies!

The Hosler Clan!!!!

We are so blessed with such wonderful daughters!

Ken and I decided to go to the 10 PM candlelight service at the church we used to attend and we were blessed to be there.  The music was so meaningful and it was so good to reconnect with friends.  Only got to bed at 12:30 and we were tired, but happy!

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday of Christmas Week!

Well I am behind again with this blog so I will give you a quick summary of the days before Christmas!  We wish you all a very Merry Christmas!

Monday I had breakfast with my Curvette friends and what a fun time we had. Ken met me at Wal-Mart and we drove to see Katelyn, our youngest granddaughter, and her pre-school Christmas program.  She played Mary and was so adorable (spoken like a true grandma!).  After some refreshments, we went back to Lanie's and Ken entertained Katelyn while I helped Lanie wrap "Santa's" Christmas gifts.  After lunch we headed home and after checking my phone, I realized 5 people had responded to our ad on Craig's List for the sale of our 2001 CRV.  We quickly made an appointment to have it inspected at 3 (wow, that was quick!) and the 1st possible buyer we spoke to said he would stop by our apartment at 4:30 to check it out!  Long story short, by 5:30 we had a cash deposit and an appointment for 6:30 on Tuesday to finalize the sale - less than 24 hours.  Wow!

We said our goodbyes to a very faithful friend!

After a walk on Tuesday morning, Ken cleaned out the CRV and I started cutting celery, onions, and bread for making my potato stuffing on Wednesday morning. Ken had lunch with Kevin and when he returned, we drove to Masonic Homes to spend the afternoon playing cards with my parents.  We always have a fun time! After a quick dinner, we went to the Notary and our 2001 CRV is no longer ours! I spent the rest of the evening making jewelry!

Wednesday morning Ken and I went for a long walk since it was so mild outside. Ken had breakfast with his friend, Gary, and I made my potato stuffing ( a family tradition) and cranberry jello salad for our Christmas dinner at Jamie's. After lunch, we spent some time cleaning the apartment and organizing things. Ken took a short nap (he is still fighting some sinus issues) and I made some pendents out of pieces of seaglass we had found.  Cindy and John arrived at 4:30 and the 4 of us met Jamie and Dane at Church for an early Christmas Eve service.  What a phenomenal worship service.  After Church, Cindy, John, Ken and I went for a delicious dinner at Fiorentinos.  Back to the apartment where the men won Up the River.  By bedtime I had a sore throat and felt rather achy! Oh no!!!!!

So Far This Month!!!!!

Well, it has been a long time again since I have posted, but the time in PA has certainly gone by quickly!

Ken and I must be getting old, because we have spent a lot of time with Dr. appointments.  I will give you just a brief summary of what has been going on -

I had my 1st dermatology appointment ever and all the spots I thought could be questionable were fine, but she didn't like the white line on my lip.  She did a scrapping for a biopsy and after 5 days it came back with cancer cells.  So, upon her advice, I scheduled an appointment with a facial surgeon for a Mohs procedure.  Ken and I went there last Wednesday for a consultation, and long story short, she couldn't get me in for the procedure until possibly the middle of January, but more likely, sometime in February.  Not good for our Florida schedule.  Fortunately she had a colleague in Florida (near where we would be staying) with great credentials and her scheduler placed a call to her on my behalf.  I now have the Mohs surgical procedure scheduled in her office in Estaro Bay for Friday, January 29. Ken and I were not impressed with the Dr. here, so we are happy to have the work done in Florida.

The day before that appointment I had my 1st colonoscopy - yippie! - and that went well.  I don't need to go back for 10 years, so maybe never!  We shall see. Ken has had a bad cold/sinus infection for the last 2 1/2 weeks and his appointment for a colonoscopy has been rescheduled 2x because of the cold.  He has an appointment now for New Year's Eve day (what a great time!), but his cold still has a lot of room for improvement if they will allow him to have it done!  I also had a dexiscan for my osteoporosis and since my bone density has improved with the medication I had taken for several years, I am off the medicine until I do another scan in 2 years.  That was good news!

In between all of these appointments we have spent time with family, friends, and our small church group.  We have enjoyed 3 different Christmas shows, watching our granddaughters at their swim meet ( at 6 and 8 they are really amazing little swimmers), and attending the Christmas show of our granddaughter, Katelyn, at her pre-school.  I also helped Jamie paint the trim in several areas of her house including the "dreaded" louvered closet doors.  It has been a special time.

The weather here, like in many parts of the country, has been unusually warm for this time year, but starting this week the cold weather has arrived.  They are predicting temperatures of around 60 degrees on Christmas day (crazy!) but we know those mild days are so temporary.  We will be ready to return to the warm Florida sunshine!

Looking forward to seeing all of our special friends that we get to see yearly in Florida.  We are hoping to leave on January 3rd or 4th if all goes according to plan.
