Monday - A Sunny but Cool Day!

Ken was up at 6:15 and did some reading before I got out of bed.  I did some stretches, showered, and then we ate a light breakfast.  I did some work on our blog before leaving at 10 for my Dr. appointment.

Ken went with me to see the back/neck specialist regarding my scoliosis.  We both thought it wise for Ken to hear what he had to say as well as be there to ask some questions that I may not think to discuss.  I was very appreciative of the honesty and kindness of Dr. Olivira and his approach to my issues.  He talked to us 1st and did some checking of my reflexes and back and then they took me for some x-rays of my back.  As we were returning to the exam room the radiologist asked if I experienced a lot of chronic back pain.  She was very surprised when I said I was comfortable sitting and driving, but had trouble doing much walking.  She said she felt I was rather fortunate considering the condition of my spine.

The Dr. returned to talk to Ken and I and said if I required or desired surgery, it would have to be done at a University Hospital not in this area, for it would be rather complicated.  I told him at this point I am not looking for anything so drastic, but looking for some relief if possible.  So, he suggested a back support, velcro brace to wear when active, an MRI to check the narrowing of my spine and if any nerves are being pinched, and then 6 to 8 weeks of physical therapy.  I was in favor of those options.  I will see him again after he gets the results of the MRI, but will hopefully start the physical therapy in the very near future.  Ken asked him about my playing pickleball and he said he would encourage me to do any type of physical activity that I can handle and hopes that walking will go better when wearing the back support.  I guess time will tell.  I really didn't learn anything today that was a surprise.  I did find out that my curvature is at 60% which is quite a lot!  Again, that wasn't a surprise either just a bit frustrating!

We stopped by Jamie's to visit, but she wasn't home, so we went to see Wilbur and ran the generator.  While there, I had a nice phone conversation with Noela.  They are doing well, but not appreciating their bad weather.

Ken and I were back home by 1:30 (we were at the Dr.'s office for 2 hours), ate lunch, and then spent time going through our shells to find the best ones to put in a shadow box we recently purchased.  It was quite a job but the real time consuming part will be mounting them in the display.  We saved that for another day!

I had great phone conversations with Noela, Joyce, Jackie and Melissa.  So nice to have special friends to share life with!

I worked on this blog and then had salads and bean burgers for dinner!  At 6 we left to go to church at LCBC since we hadn't gone to their service on Sunday and they offer one on Monday night.  I debated about going, but was glad I went with Ken.  We were home by 8 and I crocheted while watching The Voice.  Ken was in his office reading.

Off to bed at 10.

A Fun Weekend!

Saturday was an off and on sunny day!  As soon as I got up I started mixing a double batch of oat bran muffins.  Yes, Noela, we are hooked on these.  I gave a couple to my mother and she loves them too, so I have to keep her supplied. After putting the muffins in the oven, it was time to make breakfast. Ken had done some reading and devotions earlier, so after breakfast, it was my turn.

Ken spent a lot of the morning going through more photos from our western trips, still trying to decide which ones to order and then put in the frames we hope to hang in our LR.  I did a little crafting before it was time for lunch.  We also ordered some paint markers for me that are recommended for rock painting.  I had bought and tried to use Sharpie permanent markers, but they just don't work and it is rather frustrating.  I did some research and found the type that most of the rock painters recommend and Ken really encouraged me to take the "plunge" (they aren't cheap") and buy them.  So, we ordered them from Amazon.

Around 1, I drove to Lancaster to return a top I had bought in Florida that I decided is too big and then to Joann Fabrics and Michaels for a few craft supplies.   It was rather warm and sunny when I went into Michael's, so I opened the front car windows about an inch.  While in Michael's I was unaware how cloudy and windy it had gotten.  Actually, the electric went off for about 15 seconds, but it "shut off" their computer registers for about 20 minutes - what a mess!  While waiting for them to be operational, it started to POUR and it was then that I remembered opening my car windows - WOW!  It did rain in, but it could have been so much worse.

Ken started a new Step Study today that will go on for about 26 weeks with 6 other gentlemen.  They will meet every Saturday from 3 to 5.  We were both home by 5:15 and I made us enchiladas, something I had never made before.  Both of us enjoy Mexican food and my creation was pretty good.

We were at Dan and Jackie's by 6:30 and it was a great evening of fellowship and card playing. Throughout the evening, we had some great discussions and sharing time.  Later we played 3 games of Pinochle and the men won 2.  We will get them next time!!

We were home by midnight and it was off to bed!

Today, Sunday, was a very breezy cold day for late April.  Cindy and John had invited us to their church today for Bring a Friend Sunday, so Ken and I decided to go there.  Upon their invitation, my mother had decided to come too and she was surprised to see us there.  It was a very nice service and their minister is certainly very dynamic and inspiring.  We really enjoyed being there and it was nice to spend time with family!

After church, Ken and I headed to Costco to get a few items and decided to go home and make breakfast instead of doing our usual Sunday morning breakfast outing.  Ken deboned the rotisserie chicken we had bought while I cut up fresh fruit for us.  Then we made eggs.  After eating, we worked together to prep for dinner making 4 salads (2 for tomorrow night) and a large pot of wild rice.  Then it was clean-up time.

We went through the pictures Ken had chosen for framing, trying to narrow down our selections - what a job!!!  We really enjoyed reminiscing while going through them.

Ken read and rested while I made some greeting cards with some of the new items I had bought yesterday!  We had planned to go to watch Bria and Cali play field hockey, but it was very cloudy, cold and windy, so we decided to pass for today.  Later Jamie text us that it was so cold watching the game which is on top of a hill.  These Floridians just can't take this cold weather!!!

After dinner we played a game of Hand and Foot which Ken won again - this is getting old! But, I did have an amazing last round (he didn't even get into his foot!), so I almost caught up, but NOT!!!!!

I crocheted while watching American Idol and Ken was in his office doing some homework for his Step Study!  We went to bed at 10:15 after a rather relaxing day!

Thursday and Friday - Cool and Then a Rainy Friday!

Ken left at 7:30 to have breakfast with Gary.  I am not sure what happened to my "morning time" while he was gone, but it flew by.  After having breakfast, reading the paper, doing my devotions, phone calls with Cindy, and showering, it was time for us to have lunch.

We left at noon and headed to Masonic Village to spent the afternoon playing cards with my parents.  As per usual, we had a fun afternoon, but it wasn't a winning day for us ladies.  We played 4 games and we only won one!  Wow, that is ridiculous!  We always enjoy our Thursdays with mom and dad!

Ken and I were back home around 5:15, ate leftovers, watched the news, and while watching Grey's Anatomy I did some crocheting.  Ken did some reading in his office.  By 9:15 we were in bed.

Today, Friday, we were both up by 5:30 and by 6:20 I was on my way to Ephrata to have breakfast with the "Curvette" ladies.  All 8 of us were there and we had a fun time.  After breakfast I went to Dollar Tree and then to L & L Stamping Store near Ephrata to check out what they carry.  Wow, it is in the basement of an Amish/Mennonite farmhouse and the amount of inventory they carry is amazing.  I didn't have a lot of time to look around, but I was impressed and hope to return another day.  Ken had breakfast with his mentor from CR at 8 and got home about 5 minutes before me.

At 10:15 we left to deliver for Meals on Wheels here in Lititz doing the Kissel Hill Route.  By then it was "pouring", great weather for getting in and out of the car to deliver food.  Fortunately it started to clear about 1/2 way through our route.  We were back to the church around noon and had a chance to talk with my friend, Polly.

After lunch, Ken and I spent time going over our schedule for the summer because we wanted to plan some camping adventures and possibly a road trip to Canada.  Because of other commitments throughout the summer, it can be challenging to find a "stretch of time" available for camping, but I think we came up with some good possibilities.

I worked on this blog and then did some crafting.  Ken enjoyed going through some of the photos we had taken during our 2 western trips because we bought some larger frames that we want to hang in the apartment highlighting some of most memorable moments (it will be hard to choose!)

We decided to take a short walk since Ken's achilles is bothering him and my leg and hip are a problem right now.  Ken made us salads for dinner while I made enchiladas, a 1st for me and they were tasty!  After cleaning up, we played a game of Hand and Foot and Ken won again!  What am I doing wrong that he keeps winning?

I decided to enter our expenses into our budget program while he did some reading and by 10 we were in bed!

Tuesday - Warm, Sunny Morning, but then Clouds and Rain! Wednesday - Cloudy Day, But Mild!

Ken was up early to do his reading and then worked at his desk.  We made omelettes for breakfast and after cleaning up, Ken went back to his desk while I made several phone calls.  Had a wonderful conversation with Joyce, who is near Key West for the week and also with my mother to see what she would like to do together today.  We had planned to do some shopping after lunch, but decided she would rather I come to Masonic Village and we work together making some greeting cards.

Ken left to help serve lunch at the Mission and I was on my way to Pickleball at the Hempfield Sports Complex by 10:40.  I met Cindy and John there and we had a fun time playing together and with the other players.  We switch partners after every game, but for some reason Cindy and I played together about 3 times and did rather well.  I really enjoyed it!

I left there at 1 and spent the rest of the day making cards with my mother.  Unfortunately the 1st card we chose to make took a lot more time than anticipated, so we only made 2 different cards in all the time I was there.  Dad spent part of the day with us, just watching us work among our chaos!  I left around 7:45 and spent time putting all the supplies I had taken with me in their proper place.

Ken only got home from the Mission around 2 and by 5:45 he was on his way to Celebrate Recovery.  At 9:30 PM I met him at Marty's Garage in Akron so we could leave our "new" car there to get inspected tomorrow.  It was a horrible night for driving with all the rain and glare!

By 10 we were in bed where we did some reading before turning out the lights.

Today, Wednesday, I made flax pancakes for Ken, but I wasn't "feeling them" for myself.  He left at 7:30 to do his volunteering at MCC.  I spent the morning "catching up" on my devotions, making myself breakfast and enjoying reading the paper before working on this blog.  By 11:30 I decided I should get out of my PJ's and shower.  I guess it was a relaxing morning!

Ken was back by 1:30 after stopping at a local roadside stand for veggies and fruit.  We ate lunch and I went to the office to do some crafting.  I finished the cards we had "almost finished" yesterday and then did some rock painting.  Ken left at 2:45 to have coffee with one of the young men he is currently mentoring.  He returned at 4:15 and we drove to Marty's Garage to pick up the Civic that was inspected and needed new brakes in the front.

Ken went back home and made us salads and quinoa for dinner while I went to Wal-Mart for some groceries.  He started grilling a steak for me and salmon for himself as soon as I got home around 6:15.  We watched the News while eating.

After cleaning up, we played a whole game of Hand and Foot (4 rounds) and Ken won by quite a large margin!  He did some reading and I did more rock painting, which I really enjoy.

By 10:15 we went to bed to do some reading.

Monday - Field Trip, Helping at Water Street Mission, and Pickleball!

Ken and I were both up before 5:30, with Ken leaving at 5:30 to be a breakfast server at the Water Street Mission.  I left at 7 to pick up Polly and then meet the rest of the "Curvettes" in Akron (8 of us) to go on a field trip that was planned by our group coordinator, Marcia, to Shenk's Ferry Wildflower Preserve about an hour drive.

What a special group of friends!

We stopped at the Neptune Diner in Lancaster for breakfast before heading to the Preserve.  There is a mile hike through the woods that is designated as a wildflower trail and there are so many beautiful varieties of them throughout the walk.  Obviously the flowers that are blooming changes with the seasons, temperatures, and rainfall, so Marcia and Kathy try to go there every week in the spring to see what is blooming.  We saw lots of Virginia Bluebells (probably my favorite), Susquehanna Trillium, phlox, Dutchman's breeches, and violets. There were a few other varieties too, but I don't remember their names!   It is wonderful that this area is preserved!

Beautiful purple wild violets!

Dutchman Breeches!

There are numerous types of trillium, but the
one with red in the center is called the
Susquehanna Trillium!  (I only know the names
of these wildflowers because of Marcia!)

This really doesn't capture the beauty of
all the Virginia Bluebells on the hillside!
They are a gorgeous shade of blue, but the
buds are purple!

After completing the 2 mile round trip hike, we drove to a nearby restaurant and enjoyed lunch together.  Then off to a dairy not far down the road for some homemade ice cream.  Eating has to be a part of a field trip when us ladies get together.

We were back to Akron by 2:45 and I drove back home.  Ken had spent about 3 hours volunteering at the Mission, then took a walk, and worked at his desk.  He also had an appointment with Dane, our financial advisor.  At 4 we met John and Cindy at Rothsville to play pickleball.  It was a bit windy and more difficult to play outdoors with the "elements" but we did well.  Neither Cindy nor I seemed to have an over abundance of energy, but we had a good time.

By 6:15 we were back to our house and Ken grilled chicken so we could all enjoy a dinner of salads.  We played a game of Skip-Bo which the men won (did I ever say how much I dislike that game probably because the women never seem to win) and then 5 Crowns, which the men also won.  Not a good night of game playing for the ladies.

John and Cindy left around 9:45 and Ken and I cleaned up and headed to bed.  It was a busy, but fun day!

Saturday and Sunday - Milder Weather, but Still Unseasonable!!

Ken was up early to do his devotions and reading, but I only got out of bed around 7:15.  I am trying to be faithful doing my stretches each morning before getting up.  Not sure if it helps, but it certainly can't hurt!

I spent most of the morning doing wash and getting ready for the day.  Ken did some work at his desk and then rested - he had gotten up way too early!  By 1:30 we were on our way to Alden Place, a 55+ community right off of Route 72 near Mt. Gretna.  2 of the couples from our small group at church moved there in the last year and are really enjoying it, so we decided to "check it out"!  The developer was having a Spring Fling and you can tour 20 homes and after going through at least 10 of them, you were treated to a delicious free dinner in the community's clubhouse.

The community offers single homes and villas which are semi's or 3 villas that are connected.   You don't own the land on some of properties, but pay a monthly rental fee that includes snow removal, mowing and trash collection.  We really enjoyed seeing the different models and options available, but until we decide to limit our RVing adventures, where we are living now appears to be the best option for us.  It is very reasonable and we love living in Lititz within walking distance of downtown.  Also, it is so quiet in our building and the size of our apartment is about perfect for us.  The only problem we really foresee in the future is being on the second floor, but for now it is fine!

While at Alden Place we were able to visit our friends, Alten and Jane, who are in our small group.  Alten had a stroke last September and continues to be on the mend.  Jane is such a wonderful caregiver and it was so great to spend time with them.  Then it was off to the clubhouse where we sat with Lori and Eddie, other members of our Life Group, who live in the community.  The meal was delicious, but Ken and I definitely ate too much.  We were "stuffed"!  The music group,  Flashin' Caucasens was the entertainment and they were exceptional musicians and singers, playing mostly music from the 50's and 60's.    It was a very enjoyable afternoon and evening!

We were back home around 9:30 and it was off to bed!

Today, Sunday, it was 39 around 7:15, but supposed to get to the upper 60's.  We were on our way to church by 8:30 and sat with Jamie and Dane.  Another wonderful service with lots of food for thought!

After visiting with the "kids", Ken and I went out to breakfast and then make a stop at Costco.  We were back home around 1:00 and I did some reading and crocheting.  We left again at 2:30 (seems like we are never home for very long) and went to see Bria and Cali play field hockey.  They played from 3 to 4, so we weren't gone for very long.

I talked to my sister on the way and the 4 of us are going to play pickleball outdoors late tomorrow afternoon and then I invited them for dinner - salads with grilled chicken.  We will be happy to see them again and spend time together.  They just got home on Friday after spending about 10 days at Camp LeJuene, NC.

Ken and I worked together to make salads for tonight's dinner and for tomorrow.  By now it was in the mid 60's, so Ken decided to go for a walk.  My hip has been sore and stiff, and with my plans for tomorrow, I decided a walk  was probably not a good idea for me.

When Ken returned we ate dinner while watching the news.  I spent the entire evening crocheting while Ken did some reading and looking at his messages on his I-Pad.

We were in bed around 9:30 after a delightful weekend!

Thursday and Friday - Cold In the Morning with a Bit of an Afternoon Warm-up!

Ken left at 7:30 to have breakfast with Gary.  I enjoyed a relaxing morning doing my stretches, devotions, and reading the paper.  After getting ready, I decided to do some rock painting.  (I just can't decided which craft I am enjoying the most right now - all of them are fun!)  Ken had stopped at a local produce stand and was home around 10:30.

Ken rested (he was up early) and I continued crafting which included making some greeting cards.  At 3:30 we headed to the Water Street Mission to help serve dinner.  We got to have dinner before the "guests" arrived and it was delicious.  They certainly have some great chefs and helpers preparing their food.  All went well and after helping to clean-up we left there at 6:15.

We stopped at Michael's and AC Moore to buy some large frames to display photos Ken has taken on many of our memorable adventures.  Michael's is going to be moving to a new location about 1/2 mile from their present one and have 50% off on many of their items, including all the frames.  I also had a 20% off coupon for your entire purchase, including sales items, so we got 3 large frames and a shadow box for a very reasonable price!

Back home by 7:30 after stopping for an ice cream cone - Hey, we had eaten dinner at 4!  I did some crocheting while watching Grey's Anatomy.  Both of us were in bed by 10:15.

Today, Friday, there was an actual frost warning for our area - what is that about?  It is only supposed to be in the 50's, unseasonably cool for this time of year!  I am about tired of this!!!!!

I left at 6:20 to meet my Curvette friends for breakfast and what a fun time we had.  We celebrated Marcia's belated birthday and she gave each of us an inlaid wood ornament in a shape that had a meaning for each of us.  Mine was a lighthouse so I could always find my way home when traveling - how thoughtful and it was HER birthday.  Ken met one of the young men he is helping to encourage and mentor for breakfast.

I stopped at Jamie's to give Cali a "worry" rock I painted for her.  Cali had slept with one of the rocks under her pillow that I had given her on Saturday as part of an Easter gift.  She asked Jamie if I could paint her a worry stone that she could keep under her pillow to help her during the night when her worries appear!  I painted her a cute angel with Do Not Worry written on it and she was thrilled.  Hopefully it will help her and Jamie!

I was home by 9 and Ken by 9:45.  Ken and I talked about our morning and then I worked on this blog.  After a light lunch, we were on our way to Masonic Village to play Pinochle with my parents.  We were there from 1 to 4:30 and had a great time.  It was the men's day for winning.  I think they won 3 of 4!  What is that about?

We stopped at home long enough to get a cheese plate together and then were on our way to spend the evening with Fred and Doloris.  She had invited us for dinner - chili, cornbread, and salad, and everything was delicious.  I had taken cheese and crackers and cupcakes for dessert.  We had such a fun evening with lots of laughter.  The men did try, but they just couldn't win any of the games.  Doloris and I won Hand and Foot by a HUGE margin and then we beat them in Haus by an even bigger margin.  Ken thought we should cut the deck to decide the winner for the evening - REALLY?  We always have a great time with the Martins!

We were home by 11 and it was off to bed.  These last 2 days have been busy ones, but oh so good!!!!

Tuesday - What Can I Say? Another Cold, Windy Day! Wednesday Was Sunny, But Cold!

For some reason Ken and I were both awake early this morning.  Ken did some reading while I stretched and then started making oat bran muffins.  Ken came to help with the stirring and then washing the dishes.  We worked together to make omelettes for breakfast plus had a bowl of delicious fresh fruit.

After getting ready, Ken worked at his desk while I did my devotions.  At 10:15 I left to play pickleball at the Hempfield Sports Complex and had a fun time.  Not many people were there today, so I got to play lots of games.  I left by 1:00 and felt rather tired.

Ken had lunch with Kevin and then he stopped by Wilbur to get a few more things (rugs that needed washed) out of there, returning home at 2:15.  He did some more work on the computer and I decided to spend time making stamped greeting cards.

We had salads for dinner and then Ken left at 6:15 to go to Celebrate Recovery.  I spent the evening watching The Voice and crocheting.  I finished one afghan and started another, only going to bed at 11:30.

Today, Wednesday, we had a change of plans, so Ken went to MCC for his volunteer work.  I did my morning routine and "ripped out" the beginning of the new afghan (something wasn't quite right!) and then completed about 6 or 7 rows.  Then it was time to work on the blog and do some rock painting!  Ken was back home around 12:30 and we had lunch.  Then I continued crafting until the 2 of us went for a walk to downtown.

Ken grilled and we had salads for dinner.  I did a lot of crocheting and watched The Voice while Ken did some reading at his desk.  I must say that I am not as excited about The Voice as I have been in the past.  I find the talent not as exciting as previous years.

Only got to bed around 11:30 because I just didn't want to stop crocheting!

Monday - Another Cold, Windy, Rainy, Miserable Day!

Ken had another rough night of sleep, getting awake at 4 and up by 5.  I slept well and only appeared around 7:15.  After a light breakfast, we got ready for the day and then spent time coordinating our schedules.  We put appointments, etc. on our phones and sync them, but I also like to have a paper calendar that I can look out when necessary!

I got a call from my Dr.'s office with the report from my stress test and all is well!  The nurse said my heart was terrific and they found absolutely nothing that was abnormal but extremely healthy - YEAH!  Made my day!!!  Maybe the next time I need a test I won't get so stressed about it!  I doubt it!!!

By 10:15 we headed to the Church of the Brethren here in Lititz to drive for Meals on Wheels.  We did the Rothsville route which we had never done before and met some very nice people.  When we were finished delivering the meals, Ken dropped me off at the house and I drove to Ephrata for the 11:30 women's card club.  I hadn't been there since November, so it was nice to see all the ladies again.   We had a good time playing double deck Pinochle and eating the delicious snacks.

I was back home by 3:45 and Ken had spent most of the time at his desk and on the computer.  He also took an hour walk between the raindrops.  I decided to write some notes to several friends and then put addresses and phone numbers in an address book I purchased quite a long time ago so the info would be handy when we travel.  While I worked on this blog, Ken went through the photos on his camera, deleting lots of them, and then grilled chicken for dinner.

After dinner, we played 2 rounds of Hand and Foot and Ken is losing by quite a large margin.  I better "let up" or he soon won't play!  I talked to Noela and they are having very cold, ugly weather!  This week will be a rainy, dreary one for them, sort of like we are having here in PA!

I also talked to Melissa to see how Chuck is doing since his shoulder surgery last Thursday.  It will be a slow process, but all is going well and as expected!  Ken did some reading and I finished these blogs while watching The Voice.

Went to bed at 10.  Tomorrow is going to be another cold day.

Sunday - What a Weather Change!

Hard to imagine that it was around 70 degrees when we went to bed, but by this morning the temperature had dropped to 42 with the high for the day expected to be about 43.  The weather forecast was very accurate and on top of that, it was windy with some light rain!  Wow!

Ken and I left for church at 8:30 and sat with Jamie and Dane.  Again, there was an inspirational message and great music.  After chatting with the girls, Ken and I decided to go home and make breakfast.  So, it was another omelette morning.  Ken had a really poor night of sleep and took a nap while I did a little crafting.

At 12:45 we headed to Masonic Village to celebrate Dad's 94th birthday by playing Pinochle and having some cupcakes.  I can't believe how healthy he is and how good he looks.  He is amazing!  It was a great card playing day for the women winning 3 of the 4 games.  We left the men win the last one, because after all, it was Dad's birthday.

Ken and I were home by 5:30 and it was so cold and windy.  I made us salads for dinner and for tomorrow night and after dinner, we watched some TV and I crocheted.  Ken did a lot of reading.

We were in bed by 9:30.  I feel so blessed that both of my parents are still living and doing so well both physically and mentally.  Life is Good!

Saturday - What a Gorgeous Day!

Ken did some early morning reading while I did my stretches and some additional set-up for card club at our house this evening.  We made omelettes for breakfast and by 9:45 we were on our way to Jamie's for our "Easter" picnic, because our family still hadn't gotten together to celebrate Easter!

It was a beautiful, warm (almost hot) day with lots of sunshine and temperatures in the low 80's, perfect for a picnic.  Lanie usually hosts Easter, but because of all their family flu, Katelyn having to go to the Emergency Room on Wednesday night and Lanie having many responsibilities at the school on Thursday and Friday, Jamie graciously volunteered to have it at their house.  We ordered pizza and Jamie provided drinks and we all provided some snacks.

These turtles decided to get in on the action, but they
appeared a bit bored by it all!!

Some swinging and dancing on the wall!

Our pride and joy!!

Katelyn's face is healing but it looks rather painful!
There were several games of Kubb -
Time for a Kubb game and Samantha
takes it rather seriously!

Bob is "all in"!  What form!!!

It was Bob and the girls against the other adults!

The moms enjoyed watching the action!
....and then it was time to eat -

The girls enjoyed having a picnic in the front yard away
from the adults!

We were all there around 10 and spent the entire day outdoors.  We celebrated Bob's birthday which was the end of March and also Katelyn's which is April 21.

The girls also got their "belated" Easter baskets and had fun breaking the bunny pinata.

Stand back, it is Katelyn's turn....

next Samantha....

then Bria.....

and finally Cali.

Hey, wait a minute!  What is happening??

Bob decided he should take a turn and look at the candy
flying!

I think they are already enjoying the candy!

The two 9 year old cousins!

I had painted rocks from Florida with designs
that I thought the girls would like.  They were
a hit!

I was surprised at some of the ones they chose, but thrilled at how
excited they were to get them!

The granddaughters had a great time kayaking in the creek behind Jamie's house.  They were told not to go in the water (cold and dirty), but of course someone fell overboard and the other 3 had to come to the rescue!  They had so much fun.

A friend of Bria and Cali's that lives across the creek joined them!

We were waiting to see who would be the 1st to "fall" into
the water!

Samantha "needed rescued" or so they thought!

Ken and I left at 4:45 to head home for 15 minutes to put out the "treats" for the evening before meeting our card club at a Mexican Restaurant here in Lititz at 5:30.  Back to our house for a fun evening of 6 handed Haus.  The "party" ended around 10:45 and Ken and I cleaned up and did the dishes.  By 11:30 we were in bed.  It was a very busy, but phenomenal day!

Friday - Finally a Gorgeous Summer Day!

Ken and I were up right after 5 AM and by 5:30 he was on his way to help serve breakfast at the Water Street Mission.  I got ready and left at 6:30 to have breakfast with my Curvette friends.

I had a great time catching up on what has been going on in all of their lives since I missed a lot while I was in Florida.  From there I did numerous errands including Dollar Tree, Green Dragon, Wal-Mart and Aldi's.  I only got back to the house around 10:30.  Ken enjoyed his time serving at the Mission and was busy at his desk after he got back.

We put away all the groceries I had purchased and then we went to Costco for a few additional items.  Back home in time for a late lunch and then the prep began for our family "Easter" get together during the day tomorrow and the hosting of our couples card club at our place in the evening.  I also put together the Easter baskets for our granddaughters.  Ken vacuumed and did the dishes while I got the food ready for both events.  He decided to go for an hour walk, but by then my back was pretty uncomfortable and I thought I better just relax, playing some games on my tablet and then crocheting.

Ken grilled steak and salmon and we were able to eat on our balcony.  Today was a phenomenal day with plenty of sunshine and the temperature got up to 80 degrees!  It really felt like summer.  Matter of fact, it was 61 degrees when I left for breakfast at 6:30!  We are loving it!!!!

After cleaning up, Ken and I played a whole game of Hand and Foot (4 rounds) and I was the victor by a fairly large margin.  I worked on this blog and we both did some reading.  By 9:30 we were headed to bed.  It has been a rather busy day!

I did get the results of my stress test and echo cardiogram but only on the hospital portal.  It appears that everything is normal, but I haven't heard from my Dr.   I wish they spoke in "English"!

Thursday - Milder and Mostly Sunny

Ken left by 7:30 to have breakfast with his friend, Gary.  I worked on the blog, did my stretches, and left a message for Melissa and Chuck to let them know we were thinking about them as he has his shoulder surgery this morning.

I left by 9:30 to go to Ephrata Hospital for my scheduled Stress Test and Echo Cardiogram.  I am not proud to admit this, but I really struggle with my emotions and that amount I worry whenever I have to undergo any kind of medical testing.  I tend to go to the worst case scenario before I have any information and it is easily detected by my blood pressure when I get to the testing location.  Like I said, I am not proud of myself and try so hard to talk to myself and relax, but it just doesn't happen.  Enough said, the test went well and I was able to stay on the treadmill as long as they had hoped.  I was concerned that my scoliosis issues could effect my ability to walk, but it wasn't a problem at all, probably because of the soft service you walk on.

I did talk to Jamie, who just wanted to wish me well on my test, and then to Lanie to see how Katelyn was doing this morning.  She was staying home from school so Lanie could monitor her and also because Katelyn said she looked "hideous"!  The open cuts had scabbed over during the night and she said she was fairly pain free!  Yeah!

I got back home at 11:15 and after some chatting and eating a light lunch we were off to spend the afternoon card playing with my parents!  It was a fun afternoon and per usual, they were so glad to have us there.  We ended the afternoon in a tie with each of us winning 2 games.

By the time we left, I was extremely tired.  We noticed a funny noise when we went to stop in the CRV that sounded like something rubbing.  We called our garage man, Marty, and he said we should check the lug nuts on the tires.  So we stopped and Ken found all of them to be tight.  Ken decided to drop me off at the apartment and he drove right over to Marty's to see what was going on.  Just last Friday he had replaced all the brakes and rotors.  After test driving it, Marty removed the "stuff" on the left front tire but when he tested it again, the noise was still there.  So, he removed all the "stuff" on the right front tire, test drove it, and bingo, the noise was gone.  Apparently there was a faulty new rotor.

Ken called me on his way home (1 1/2 hours later), and he woke me.  I had napped the whole time he was gone, which is such an unusual thing for me to do, sleep during the day.  I guess the stress test had "wiped me out"!

I did check in with Melissa and Chuck is doing well following his shoulder surgery earlier today.  They were home before lunchtime and so far he is relatively pain free, but that was because the "block" from surgery was still working.

We had leftovers for dinner and then Ken did some reading while I crocheted and watched Grey's Anatomy.  By 9:30 we were in bed to do some additional reading.

Wednesday - Sunny But Cool Day!

Ken and I watched the Morning News and then had a light breakfast.  Ken left at 8 for his volunteer job at the Mennonite Central Committee.  Today he went out on the truck to pick up books at several locations around the County.

I spent the morning keeping busy around the apartment.  I made salads for dinner tonight and tomorrow, cleaned up the kitchen, did a load of wash, and then recorded our expense in my computer budget program.  I also took time to do my devotions and do some crocheting.

Ken was home by 1 and after lunch, we did some chatting about the rest of our week and some of things we have been reading and doing.  He decided to rest while I worked on this blog.  Then I did some crocheting and made a few greeting cards.

At 4:30 we decided to go for a walk, for by then it was around 50, but still a bit chilly for the sun was in and out.  I wore my SAS and the more I walked the better it felt, but it took quite awhile for that to happen. Upon our return, Ken grilled chicken and I made rice to go with our salads.  After cleaning up, we decided to play a game of Hand and Foot.

About that time we got a message from Lanie that Katelyn had fallen off her long board and landed on her face.   She had taken her to Urgent Care, but they suggested they take her to the hospital emergency room because she probably needed stitches and since it was her face they would like a plastic surgeon to do them.

Ken and I headed to Reading Hospital so we could offer Lanie and Katelyn some support.  What a long wait!  They had gotten there at 7:00 and all of us only left there around 10:45 and she didn't even need stitches.  Thank heaven or we may have been there overnight.  Seriously, the Dr. said the rather deep cut below her lip and around her nostril would heal just fine without the stitches because of her age.  We had been there so long they were already looking better!  Katelyn did a great job of being patient and cooperative, but I don't think that demeanor would have lasted if stitches were needed!

Ken and I were home by 11:30 and headed right to bed so thankful that Katelyn's injuries weren't more serious.  Fortunately she was wearing a helmet!

Tuesday - Guess What?? Cold, Partly Sunny Day! Where is Spring????

Ken was up early to read and then we both watch some of the Morning News after I did my stretches.  We had a delicious omelette breakfast and then got ready for our day!

I left at 9:15 and stopped at Dane's office to sign our finished tax documents and then went to AC Moore to use another 55% off coupon for a skein of yarn.  Then it was on to the Hempfield Sports Complex to play pickleball from 10:45 to 1:15.  It seemed strange that John and Cindy weren't there, but I still had a good time.  I was really thrilled with how I played today especially the effectiveness of my serve.  Not bragging, it just felt good to play well.

I got home around 1:45 and Ken had a busy time while I was gone.  He had stopped by Dane's office to sign the documents and then get copies of them.  Then he was off to Costco for his prescription and to get a few groceries.  From there he went to the Christian Bookstore to purchase a book for a friend who is going through a tough time medically.

He decided to go for a long walk, but because I had gotten a lot of exercise this morning, I chose to pass!  Instead, I did some game playing on my tablet and then did a little crocheting, followed by some cardmaking.  Ken left at 5:45 to pick up a buddy to go to Celebrate Recovery for dinner and the meeting.  I had some lasagna I had brought home from Briandi's in Florida with a salad.  What a treat!

While Ken was at CR, I did a lot of crocheting and then worked on this blog.  Ken got back at 9:30 and after some chatting, we were off to bed.  It was a relaxing evening and a fun day!

Monday - Cold Day with Some Snowflakes!

Ken and I were up in time to watch the first 20 minutes of the Morning News.  Then it was time to stretch and get ready for the day.  We both did our devotions and reading and I worked on the blog before leaving at 10:15 to go to the Water Street Mission for our 1st time of volunteering.

I must say that our 1st experience was a very good one and you can't help but be impressed by the organization and their amazing workers.  Ken and I looked great in our hair nets and his beard and mustache nets - I wish we had some photos to show you how good we looked - NOT!  We were supposed to be there by 11 and our time started with the kitchen help meeting for prayer and then having the opportunity to eat together before the people who stayed there were served.  The food was positively delicious and all homemade at the Mission.  Isaac's, a well-known eatery here in the county, provided their fabulous tomato bisque. The main course choices were stuffed peppers, beef stroganoff, or a chicken marina pasta all made from scratch here at the Mission.  My job was putting veggies on their plate and offering them a bowl of soup.  Ken filled small bowls with fresh fruit and tuna salad and offered containers of yogurt.  The folks certainly have lots of choices including a salad bar - it was impressive!

After serving, Ken helped wash the floor of the dining hall while I did some sweeping.  We left there around 1:30 having been blessed by the whole experience.  We made a stop at AC Moore so I could get a couple items that I needed for some crafting I am doing.  Ken, being the good guy he is, went in with me so he could use the 55% off coupon for one item and so could I.

I did hear from Cindy and they are in North Carolina on their way to Camp LeJeune.  It is near 50 degrees so they are enjoying the milder temperatures.  Once back home, I decided to start another baby afghan for Knots of Love and then went back to my desk to go through some samples of cards you can make to get some ideas for creating new ones.  I plan to get together with my mother, who is also a big card maker, to spend time together making some new creations.

Around 4:30 we were going to take a walk and when we looked out the window, it was snowing - REALLY?  It doesn't take much for me to say no to walking especially when it is only in the low 40's.  Ken braved the weather and made hamburgs on the grill and after cleaning up, we played 2 rounds of Hand and Foot.  I am in the lead by about 1200 points.

Ken did some reading and I crocheted while watching The Voice.  Bedtime was 10:15.

Saturday and Sunday - A Great Weekend!

Ken got up at 6:30 and I was awake in time to watch the Morning News.  It was only near 40 degrees and cloudy, but Ken decided to take a walk - I didn't have an interest.  So off he went for about 1 1/4 hours!  I did a load of wash, my stretches, and my devotions till he returned.  ( I played a game on his I-Pad but we won't mention that!)

We ate a light breakfast and then it was shower time.  Ken spent about 1/2 hour talking to Ernie.  They did get home yesterday and are trying to adapt to the cold weather.  All of us feel extremely blessed when we get home from Florida safe and sound!  I talked with Melissa since we hadn't chatted for quite a while.  They had a good time in San Antonio this winter, but January was very cool and dreary.  February was a great month for golfing and being outdoors.  Chuck is having rotator cuff surgery this Thursday that will be rather major.  We are praying that all will go well and that the recovery will be quicker than predicted.

Ken vacuumed (a job that is hard on my back!) and then went to the grocery store for a few items.  I washed the floors and then spent just a little time painting.  After a light lunch, Ken rested and I scoured the bathroom.

At 2, Dan and Jackie, great friends for many years, picked us up and the 4 of us went to see the movie, "I Can Only Imagine"!  What a powerful and great movie!  We all really enjoyed it and would highly recommend it!  From there we went to Mick's Grill, an eatery in the theater complex, for soup and salads.  Then back to our place to play Hand and Foot, a new game for Dan.  The men were definitely the winners.  Jackie and I just couldn't get going!  She was unable to get into her "Foot" the 1st 3 rounds -what is that about?  We had a fun time anyway just playing, chatting, and sharing life!  They left around 10:30 and we were off to bed!

Today, Sunday, was a sunny day but only in the 40's.  It was in the upper 20's when we got up.  Fortunately and for a nice change, it was sunny today.  We went to LCBC and sat with Jamie, Dane, and his parents.  It was an amazing sermon with so much to think about and contemplate.  After church we went to breakfast with Eddie and Lori and had a nice time "catching up" because we hadn't seen them since we were together in Florida!  From there Ken and I went to Jamie and Dane's (they knew we were coming) and played games with girls and and had some nice conversation with Dane and Jamie.  It was a wonderful 1 1/2 hours together!  They really are a special family!

On the way home, I chatted with Cindy who had called earlier to ask about my Dr. appointment that I had on Thursday.  What a great sister!  They are leaving tomorrow morning for North Carolina to Camp LeJeune where they left their motorhome on the way back from Florida.  They are looking forward to spending about a week there.

We were home by 2 and it was a relaxing day.  We would have gone for a walk, but it was in the 30's, windy, and just too cold for our "Florida blood"!  I spent the afternoon at my craft desk making a few greeting cards, writing some notes to friends, and cleaning up my area.  Ken did some reading and we watched some of the Masters Golf.  After leftovers for dinner, I did a little more crafting, worked on this blog, and by 9:30 we were in bed.

It has been a very nice weekend!

Friday - ANOTHER Damp, Cool, Dreary Day!

I was up at 5:30 to got ready to meet my Curvette ladies for breakfast.  Ken had been awake for about 1 1/2 hours during the night, so I had to wake him when I was ready to leave at 6:30 - his request!

It was fun to have breakfast with my friends and we had a good time laughing and sharing stories.  We left a little before 8 and I met Ken at our local Honda repair shop so we could leave the CRV there to get inspected.

When we got home, I cleaned-up my office space and then worked on my blog.  I then did my devotions that I didn't have time to do before I left for breakfast!  I left again for my 10 AM Dr. appt. in Ephrata.  All my blood work was great but she is scheduling me for a stress test since I mentioned that I have some chest pain and tingles in my arm.  We both feel it is probably nothing but muscular aches since there is no family history of heart problems and scoliosis can affect breathing, but better to be safe than sorry!   I will have that next Thursday. I am also going to see an orthopedist that specializes in the back and neck to see what he would recommend for my ongoing scoliosis issues.  I probably won't be able to see that Dr. for a month or so!

Upon my return, we ate lunch and then I did some rock painting while Ken went through lots of "stuff" in his desk and closet.  He was in a "throw away" mode and that was good!  Amazing what you save and wonder why?????

We went to pick up the finished CRV which needed new brakes and rotors on all the wheels - a rather "hefty" bill.  The car has 75,000 miles so it was time for new ones!  It was still cloudy and damp, but had warmed to the low 50's, so we went for a walk.  I am still not very comfortable in my SAS, but I need to get "used to it" all over again, since I hadn't worn it for such a long time and my body is not happy with the position it wants me to be in!

After dinner, we decided to go to Linden Hall, a local girls boarding school, to attend the play they were performing, but when we got there the tickets had all been sold.  So we went to Red Box and rented the movie, "Wonder".  Both of us enjoyed the story and could understand how tough it would be for children and their parents to deal with their disabilities.  The hurt they feel would be so difficult!

We went right to bed at the end of the movie.  It has been a relaxing afternoon and evening!  Did get a message from Ernie and Noela that they planned to arrive back home in Canada today.
