Day 26 - A Trip to Tombstone!

Ken and I were up by 6:15 and had Waldo over to the service bay at Lazydays by 8 AM.  Today they are repairing the cabinetry above the drivers seat that is under warranty.  When we returned to the CG, we chatted with Chuck and Melissa and by 8:45 we were on our way in their CRV to Tombstone, about 60 miles away.

While driving, we passed our States on Skates gals and did our usual waves and yelling at them.  They are still "skating on".  We arrived at Tombstome around 10 and what a great place!  It is an old silver mining town that was built around 1882, had 2 devastating fires, and the famous fight at the O.K. Corral.  Many of the building are original, with some maintenance and repairs needed so they could house shops, restaurants, etc.  It is a fascinating place. They give stagecoach rides, a trip into the old silver mines,

The Crystal Palace Saloon, and most of it is authentic!

If you can't find the right cowboy hat, you probably won't find it!

If you can't find the right pair of boots here, you probably can't
find them!

We paid to get into the area where Watt Earp, his brothers, Doc Holiday, and the bad guys fought their duel at the OK Corral.   That also gave us the opportunity to see a very interesting movie narrated by Vincent Price about the town's history, it's people, and actually watch a re-enactment of the fight.  It was a good experience!  The way they treated the women in those days was really a travesty.  Brothels were big business and totally legal and that seems to be the "trade" for many of the women.  How sad!

Chuck trying to lasso the bull.  Ken actually did it the
very 1st time he tried, lassoing both horns!

Doc Holiday, Wyatt Earp, and Waytt's brother!

These boys were the bad guys and died at the OK Corral
on October 26, 1881.

This tells the sad tale about the job of many of the
women of Tombstone!

By that time we were hungry so we went to Big Nose Kate's Saloon for a delicious lunch and live music.  Big Nose Kate was the girlfriend of Doc Holiday for a long, long time.  The saloon was the original Hotel and the beautiful wooden bar is original.  The gentleman who was the janitor at the hotel way back when, had a roo in the basement and no one ever check on him.  He spent his evenings digging a hole to one of the tunnels of the silver mine.  Eventually he took a lot of silver and then fled towo.  Story has it that it was discovered shortly after he left and he had an untimely death!

This was such a fun place, and the food was exceptional!

This "cowboy" provided live music while we ate and he
was excellent!

This tells the story of the "janitor" also know as The Swamper!

This is the Swampers room in the dark basement!
Big Nose Kate was the girlfriend of Doc Holiday
for a long time.  They would separate often,
but then get back together!

We walked around town stopping at the totally original Bird Cage Theatre, where many troupes came through town and performed.  There were "cribs" for the ladies to "service" the cowboys on either side of the upper balcony.  You also can see many bullet holes in the walls throughout the theatre!

We visited the Boothill Graveyard on the way out of town that has many people buried there in the 1880's.  Some of the headstones were rather interesting! We were back to the CG by 4 and Ken and I headed to the service bay to get Waldo. They had completed the necessary cabinet work and it looked great.

We weren't very hungry after our nice lunch, so Ken ate a few leftovers and opted to skip dinner.  Chuck and Melissa came to Waldo to play cards so they could experience the "roominess"!  They oohed and ached!  The men won Pinochle, but the women won Up the River!  It was a fun evening and an interesting day experiencing the Wild West!

I need to hold on for "dear life".  This Ken is a wild one!!!!
