Sam and Kathy got to Willie around 10 and we were on our way in Diesel with our 4 bikes on the back to head to the Eastern Bike Trail that started near Kennebunk. We had packed snacks and lunches for our adventure. The trail was beautiful and we saw many interesting things. The bull frogs were noisy and active along the way. Ken saw a deer (at least he said so), plus we saw colorful mushrooms, beautiful flowers, picked wild raspberries, saw many butterflies, a turtle with a snail caught on his mouth, and even a porcupine! We rode a total of 16 miles on the well maintained gravel trail.
These frogs were so busy and loud! They actually were mating, not wrestling!!!! |
Such a colorful mushroom! |
If you look closely, this turtle has a snail stuck on his mouth. Ken used a stick to remove it for him. (It probably was his dinner!) |
These were so sweet! |
After the ride, we went through the town of Kennebunkport and were unable to find a place to eat our lunch. So, we continued on to a little working lobster harbor, Cape Porpoise, where we ate lunch sitting on a rock overlooking the harbor. While there we went down the rocks to the small "beachy" area to look for sea glass. We found many pieces, but most of them were extremely small. Ken helped to tie up a large sailboat and enjoyed talking to some of the lobster fishermen on the pier. There was 1 restaurant on Cape Porpoise, but other then that it is just a working lobster harbor place.
What a luncheon view! |
We could see this lighthouse from the rock where we ate lunch! |
Looking for sea glass! |
Ken become a skipper for the sailboat! |
The restaurant at Cape Porpoise! |
Came back through Kennebunk and all of us were ready to rest. We got together at Willie around 7:15 to have dinner together. Ken built a fire for roasting corn on the cob plus a rack of ribs. What a feast when you add potatoes cooked on the fire and fresh strawberries with ice cream.
This was such a wonderful day!
