Ken and I had also checked out the possibility of staying another week in this Moody Beach CG instead of moving on to New Hampshire as planned. The weather next week in this area looks so warm and sunny and we have so many places we would like to explore further. Also, we really want to go to the beaches to look for sea glass and haven't been able to do much of that so far on this trip. After talking to Sam and Kathy to determine what they were planning for the next week, we confirmed our reservations to stay here and cancelled the ones for Sandy Beach in New Hampshire. Sam and Kathy had decided not to go to New Hampshire, but will stay an extra night here so we can do the Ferry Ride on Sunday when the weather should be perfect for the trip.
We drove scenic Route 1A along the coastline to the little village of York. Spent time walking the beach area (it was raining lightly) and then walked the streets checking out the shoppes. This area is so "user friendly", as the food, merchandise, and parking are all very reasonable. We really liked this place!

If you look closely, Kathy and I are holding our umbrellas while looking for sea glass. We found many pieces here, but most of them were fairly small. |
This is an old soda fountain and candy sore in York! |
From there we continue the coastal drive to see the Dubble Lighthouse, one of the most painted and photographed lighthouses in the world. It was built in 1879 for $15,000. and its light is visible for 13 miles. What a beautiful site!
Dubble Lighthouse! You can't go on the island, but it is a beautiful site. Not the cable care on the left of the lighthouse keepers home! |
Then on to Harbor Beach at York Harbor where we did the 1/2 mile Cliff Walk. Just gorgeous! Our last stop was in Portsmouth NH, which was another quaint seaside town. We thoroughly enjoyed the eateries, shoppes, and Prescott Park where they were doing an outdoor play of "Annie". You sit on lawn chairs or blankets right at the water's edge to watch the play that takes place at the outdoor amphitheater for $5.00. Ken and I hope to go back to watch it next weekend. We loved this area. All of these southern areas were much less crowded and more affordable than Ogunquit and its surrounding places.

Quite a sign for the Brewery in Portsmouth! |
Beautiful garden in the Park in Portsmouth! |
The outdoor theater where Annie was playing. You can actually see Annie if you look closely! |
More of the gorgeous gardens! The people in this area take great pride in their flowers! |
We had never seen such small bronze statues! This was a boulder in the park where the Cliff Path began. It is people doing different activities on the beach! |
Back to Willie by 7:30 to play 2 games of Upwords before calling it a day. We saw so many beautiful areas and sites today!
