Saturday was supposed to be a slow paced day, but it became extremely busy.
We began the day by walking to the Wal-Mart Marketplace for a few groceries and then we made breakfast. Ken took a long walk and I decided to go to the pool and do my aquatic exercises. The pool water is so refreshing and I had my own private pool, because no one else was there!
Our day got buy when a received the prints I had ordered from Costco and of course I wanted to put them in the frames and hang them on the walls. Ken was a "trooper" and helped me with the project. We also decided to move some of the photo frames we had hung earlier. So, it became more of a job than we bargained for! Then it was time to prep food for our dinner guests. We cut-up all the lettuce and veggies for a large salad and cleaned up the kitchen. Ken vacuumed while I showered and cut-up potatoes to roast in the oven. I had just finished doing my hair when Frank, Barb, Rick, and Joyce arrived at 4. Neither Ken nor I had anytime to rest before their arrival. Not sure what happened, but the day certainly "got away from us"!
What a delightful evening we had having dinner together and then playing a game of Hand and Foot with the women beating the men. Dinner was a success and Ken and I appreciated all the great comments we got on our Florida home. They were very gracious. By 9:15 they left and Ken and I finished cleaning up the Kitchen. What a fun, busy day with another group of very special Florida friends who we learned to know at our church at home. They are now all permanent Florida residents!
Today, Sunday, we were at church by 9:15 and they needed greeters and asked Ken and I if we would do that job. We were scheduled to greet after the 1st service, so we did it before both gatherings! It is a job we enjoy!
We came right home after the 2nd service began and I put in a load of wash and together we mixed a batch of oat bran muffins. Ken did the dishes while I finished the muffins. Then together we made a cooked breakfast!
We spent sometime packing for our trip to The Villages tomorrow to stay with Chuck and Melissa until Wednesday. We are so excited to be able to get together with them, because we always have such a good time. Ken rested and I worked on this blog while watching football.

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday!
Most mornings Ken takes a long walk and today was no exception! I am still not able to go very long distances because of my back and hip issues all related to my scoliosis! It makes me sad, but I am thankful for the many things I can do!
Here are some photos he took of the beautiful landscaping here in our community -
By 10:15 we were on our way, with our bikes hitched to our CRV, to Rick and Joyce's home to spend the day together. We chatted just a little and then got in our cars and drove into downtown Venice to ride the Venetian Waterway Trail, definitely one of our favorite bike trails. It was a beautiful day for riding although a bit hot and humid! We stopped along the way to feed peanuts to the Florida Scrub Jays! They came out in abundance and even landed on our heads when we were leaving and had no peanuts for them. I guess they were really hungry today!
After a short time walking Caspersen Beach, we rode back to our cars (facing the breeze) and then went to the Dockside Grill for delicious salads for lunch. Back to their house where we spent the remainder of the afternoon and early evening playing Pinochle. Of course, the women won again! Ken I left around 7:45 after a wonderful day with special friends!
Thursday, Ken and I walked to The Marketplace, Wal-Mart's grocery store only, that is about 1/2 mile from our condo. What a great store and we really appreciate how convenient! After breakfast, Ken left to help unload the truck and then set-up for tomorrow's food pantry! I decided to go to the pool (my 1st time) and do some aquatic exercises. The 3 pools here at our community our heated and I really enjoyed my time in the pool. Our next store neighbors, Leo and Linda, came the last 1/2 hour I was there and I enjoyed getting to chat with them.
Ken was back around 12:30 and I spent the rest of the afternoon and evening making a shadowbox picture for the master bath. It was nice to have the day at home! We watched some football and I stayed up until midnight so I could finish my picture and put everything back in its proper place! I love being creative, but I was exhausted when I "hit the pillow"!
Friday was another beautiful, hot, humid day and because Ken was up very early, he had time to take a walk before we left at 8:45 to work at the Food Pantry! We just love helping with this ministry and all the people that serve! We had a nice amount of fresh fruit and produce today and our clients were very thankful.
About 15 of us went to lunch at Beef O Brady's and had a fun time spending time together and eating a delicious lunch. From there Ken and I went right to the Costco at Sarasota where we saw Rick and Joyce! I think they were stalking us!!!!!
We were back home around 5:30 and we watched the new show, Bluff City Law! I think that is the name and surprising, Ken even thought it was a great show and he is not one to watch serial shows! I did a few final touches to my shadow box picture and we were in bed by 10:30!

Monday and Tuesday - Fun Days!
Monday was a good day with fantastic weather and a rather relaxing day. Ken went for a walk while I got ready. I did a load of wash and we did some cleaning around the condo before leaving at 11:15 to met friends from church, Joe and Carolyn, for lunch at the local Hometown Restaurant/Cafe. We had a delicious lunch while chatting and by 1:00 we all come back to our place so they could take the short tour before we played 2 games of Rummy. Not to brag, but I won both games - Yes!!!!
They left around 3:45 and Ken read and rested while I spent time gluing shells to a "lathe" type frame I had recently bought for the hallway from our MBR to our Master Bath. I also cut a piece of fish netting to cover part of it.
After dinner, Ken went to Celebrate Recovery and I spent time measuring and then hanging the lathe frame. I was going to work on another shadow box picture from the Master Bath, but by then it was 8:00 and I didn't feel like getting out all the "stuff" I would need to make the picture and then clean it up before going to bed. So, I spent the rest of the evening crocheting while watching The Voice! Ken was home by 9:30 and by 10 we were in bed.
Today, Tuesday, Ken had a a face time chat with one of his CR buddies from back home while I stayed in the BR doing my exercises, devotions, and showering. Ken made us a delicious breakfast and by 9:30 Bob and Pat from church, came to visit. Bob is very artistic and brought us a cute painting he did on a frond from a palm tree and a beautiful live mum for our lanai. How thoughtful. We had such a good time visiting and learning more about their lives.
At 1:00, Ken drove me to the church for a craft class. Every Tuesday a group of ladies get together and someone teaches a new craft that hopefully gets completed that week, but sometimes goes into the next! Each of us brought a T-shirt and we picked a design to design on it using fabric paint. I had found a saying on Pinterest that I wanted to try to do. I had a good time and was basically pleased with my 1st try. It is rather hard to be steady using a small squeeze bottle of paint and hopefully getting it on evenly, straight and exactly where you want it!
Susan, the gal who had invited me to join them, brought me home to check out the condo. She is such a hard working lady at the church and only moved to this area of Florida 9 months ago. Susan is also extremely artsy and painted a really cute Halloween church today. It said, "Yes, I can drive stick" and it was a picture of a witch on a broom - her husband thought it would be a good one for her to paint!!!!!
Ken took a walk while they changed the oil in the CRV and stopped for some groceries while I was gone. After Susan left, I went to Wal-Mart to get a curtain rod and a different curtain for the guest room, but I didn't have any success. I also checked at Target. But, when I got back to the Condo I got smart and went on Amazon, finding just the right navy blue drape and rod. Why isn't the internet my 1st choice? It would safe me a lot of time and frustration!!!!
Ken grilled for dinner, I cleaned-up and then we worked together to hang magnet latches on both of the vanities Joyce and I had painted. Now they close properly!
I worked on this blog while watching The Voice and then I was so excited to watch the 1st show of this year's season of "New Amsterdam"! It has been another very nice day!

About 6 clips came with the frame so you can hang 4 x 6 photos. They are on order and I am excited to complete the project! |

Friday, Saturday, and Sunday!
Friday morning Ken and I worked at the Food Pantry from 9 to 12:45. We had 90 folks come by for food so it was busy but what a wonderful opportunity to help those in need. Ken and I look forward to this mission each week.
We didn't go to lunch with the group today, because we had to head to Venice by 3:15 and knew we would hardly be back in time. We did leave at that time and drove to Rick and Joyce's home in Venice. Joyce and I packed a light dinner and then left by 4:15 to go to Bayside Church in Bradenton (their main campus) for a SHE Evening. We passed a water area near their home on our way where I spotted a rosette spoonbill (Ken's favorite bird), so I called him and he went there immediately to get a photo. Rick had gone to their church to help with a funeral so Ken was on his own until 6:00 when the men got together for dinner in Sarasota and Ken and Rick were able to drive there together!
The SHE Evening was a gathering of 3,000 women and there were food trucks there if you wanted to get dinner and then a service of wonderful praise music followed by a very inspirational speaker. My friends, Joyce and Barb, are members of Bayside near Sarasota and we met up with about 6 other friends that we spent the evening with. Hard to imagine that many women in one place celebrating Jesus! After the service, they had free ice cream for everyone. We left the church campus around 9:00 and were back to Rick and Joyce's home by 10:15 where we met up with Ken and Rick. Ken and I returned to Port Charlotte by 11:15 and it was off to bed!
I had mentioned to Ken that I was hoping we could have a relaxing weekend just enjoying some time together at the Condo and that is exactly what we did. I was looking forward to some crafting time. Ken and I were up later than usual and I got to relax in bed while having a very nice conversation with Noela. It was so good to talk with her. After breakfast, we took our 1st walk around our community. What a beautiful area with 3 nice pools, a very modern and well-maintained clubhouse, and amazing landscaping throughout. Ken continued his walk but I returned to the Condo and then went to Michael's to pick up some picture frames and craft supplies.
After lunch, we enjoyed watching the Pitt football game where the winner, yeah Pitt, was only determined at the very end of the game. I worked on a shadow box craft project during the game and the remainder of the evening, stopping only to prep and eat dinner and have a nice phone chat with my mother. I am thrilled with my finished produce that will go in the guest BR. We had watched the Texas game during the evening, but it was 11:45 when I finished cleaning up my "mess" and got into bed. I loved having time to be creative today!
Today, Sunday, was another gorgeous weather day and we were at Edgewater Church by 9:15. What a wonderful service with inspiring music and a very good message. We made breakfast at home and then spent at least 2 hours going through more photos to order a large canvas picture for over our bed. I also ordered some small prints for the frames I had purchased yesterday!
I worked on this blog while watching some football and then spent time doing some additional crafting! Ken took a long walk and then we had leftovers for dinner and Ken read while I finished the wreath I made today for our front door. I was pretty happy with it when finished. It certainly has been a relaxing a fun weekend and I am thrilled with the projects I complete!

Thursday - Another Busy Day at the Condo!
We watched the morning news and had a cooked breakfast before Ken left at 8:45 to help unload the trucks for the church's food pantry. I kept myself very busy while he was gone - put the prints we had received yesterday from Costco in the proper frames, ironed my new curtains, did some wash, and caught up on some text messages as well as having a nice chat with my brother-in-law, John. Cindy is in Fenwick Island with 3 other ladies for the week and so John is "bacheloring" it!
When Ken returned he surprised me with a package that had arrived at our door - the canvas photo we had ordered from Costco for above our sofa. So, we took time to hang it before leaving for Home Depot to exchange the door hinges and then to Wal-Mart for a few more groceries. It looks amazing and was a gift from my dear friend, Polly. We are so grateful! After lunch, Ken rested while I did some additional decorating projects. Then it was time to "tackle" hanging those vanity doors and this time all went smoothly. I had bought decorative door knobs too that had to be "installed" and that went well also. Hallelujah, another project completed!
Ken grilled on the neighborhood grills and after clean up, we watched a little tv and I worked on this blog while Ken did some reading. It has certainly been a productive week here at the condo. Looking forward to helping at the Food Pantry tomorrow, then going to a ladies church service at Joyce's church near Sarasota (Ken will spend some time with Rick and some of his buddies) in the evening, and looking forward to a very relaxing weekend.
Just a side note. Settlement is supposed to take place tomorrow, Friday, on Wilbur down in Texas. But, with the severe weather they are having in the Houston area, we are not sure what will happen. Hopefully things are still on target to take place, but maybe not tomorrow. Time will tell! We will be so thankful when that chapter of our lives has closed and someone new will get to enjoy Wilbur as much as we did!

Our new entertainment center that goes with the end tables! |
I am so happy with the print we ordered. It took us a long time to decide which photo to use, because Ken has taken so many special ones! |
It adds a lot of color to the LR, but I decided it needs to be lowered several inches! We will do that another day! |
It is rather difficult to tell what color we painted the cabinet, but it is a medium brown and the knobs are shells to go with my shower curtain! |
I used the same color in Ken's bathroom (also the guest one!) and the knobs there are life preservers! |

Wednesday - Finally a Beach Day!
Ken was up before me but I was in time to see the beginning of the morning news. Ken mentioned that he wants to go to Manasota Beach today and do some relaxing! Imagine that! We haven't been to the beach since March, so I agreed it was time! Our family didn't go to Bethany this year, so we weren't at the beach all summer!
It was a beautiful warm, sunny day, so we packed some drinks and snacks and headed to the beach arriving around 11:30. It was a great day for finding shark's teeth and Ken found about 7 pieces of seaglass - that is a rarity in Florida! We did some reading and I did some messaging to friends and family before we left for back home around 2:30.
After dinner, Ken and I decided to work together to hang the doors on the bathroom vanities that Joyce and I had painted yesterday. What a frustrating time because I had purchased reverse hinges and it took Ken and I some time to realize they were not the type we needed. Enough was enough, so we sat down and enjoyed the finale of America's Got Talent. I really didn't know who I was rooting for, because there were so many very talented acts. I really thought the gymnastic team would win and I was disappointed when they only came in 4th. I thought they were positively amazing as were all the finalists!
Hopefully tomorrow we can get the doors hung when we get the proper hinges!

Monday and Tuesday!
Monday morning were up a bit later because both of us felt rather exhausted and I had stayed up to watch the end of the Eagles football game. Also, I had a terrible time going to sleep, because it was after 2 when I finally slept! By 9:00 we were on our way to North Port to help the Backpack Angels group put together hygiene kits for about 5 of the local schools, around 400 plus kits complete with sanitary wipes, brush and comb, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, and toothpaste. Again, it is a wonderful group of people who provide this service 1X per month. We were so happy to be a part of it and plan to do it whenever we are in Florida.
Back to the condo by 11 and we spent time getting organized for tomorrow when Rick and Joyce are coming to help us improve our rack and shelving systems in our BR closets (the men will do that) and Joyce and I will paint both bathroom vanities. We needed to design what we wanted in the closets and then empty them. Ken also took the doors off the vanities in preparation for the painting.
We ate lunch and I left for another shopping spree, mainly because I needed paint for the vanities, had some clothes to pick-up that I had put on lay-away, and get supplies to make a wreath for our door. I did pick up a few additional items, but I kept it under control. I only returned around 5.
Ken had made salads for dinner and then he grilled meat on the grills across from our building that are provided by our community, including the propane gas. We hadn't brought our grill from PA, but Ken enjoyed their "set-up" and thinks we might leave our grill at home! I cleaned up and Ken headed to Celebrate Recovery. I spent the evening crafting but unfortunately I didn't get very much accomplished. I did spent a lot of time cleaning up my mess! We watched American Ninja Warrior when Ken returned from church and both of us found it amazing and exciting!
Tuesday, Rick and Joyce arrived around 10:30 and we all went right to work. Much to my surprise, Ken decided we should really replace the vertical blinds in both BR's and I had done a bit of looking yesterday at Home Depot when they were mixing my paint. After some talking among the 4 of us it was decided we should get the 2 1/2 inch Faux wooden blinds, so Ken and Rick went to make the purchase while Joyce and I started painting the vanities.
The men got the blinds installed fairly quickly and I must tell you, they look so fantastic! Then they began removing all the organizers in the guest BR and got ready to put it back together in a much more user friendly way. Unfortunately, they realized they needed some of the long racks that were still at Rick and Joyce's home in Venice, so they left to "retrieve" them. Rick and Joyce had totally redone their walk-in closet with organizers from Ikea and saved all their shelving for us to use - how nice of them! Ken and Rick cut the pieces at Venice before returning to our Condo. By then Joyce and I had eaten lunch and finished all the painting we could do. They doors were still wet and so I suggested we go to find a curtain rod and new drapes for our MBR. We all decided the new blinds needed new curtains! We drove in Joyce's car and got a call from Rick that a saw they needed was in her car. So I shopped while she headed back to the Condo taking the scenic route - she got lost!
She returned to help me decide on the rod and curtains and when we got back we could paint the final coat on the vanity doors and the men were almost finished with the guest closet. When that was completed, they graciously hung the new rod in our BR and then added one shelf to our MBR closet. By then it was 7:30 and we were all starving. We ordered an Italian pizza made in the coal oven at Boca Lupa and it was positively delicious. After some ice cream for dessert, Rick and Joyce wanted to stay and play one game of Pinochle and it was a good way for us to relax and enjoy the evening. Unfortunately the men won!
We were so grateful to Rick and Joyce for all their help and the shelving they had given to us. What nice changes were made to our Florida home today and we owe them all our gratitude! What great friends who are so giving of their time and talents!!!!
We pack the school kits at a storage area near North Port. It is a great group of ladies and there are some men too! Ken wasn't the only one! |

Love all the shelves that provide a lot better organization in the Guest Closet! |
The new Faux wooden shades plus new curtains and even a new curtain rod! |
We were so grateful to Rick and Joyce for all their help and the shelving they had given to us. What nice changes were made to our Florida home today and we owe them all our gratitude! What great friends who are so giving of their time and talents!!!!

Our 1st Full Weekend in Florida and Ken's 69tth Birthday!
Saturday morning we did some clean-up around the condo and then after breakfast, we drove to Joe and Carolyn's house to meet our friends, Dave and Sharon, who live in PA but also spend a lot of time in their Marco Island area home. They are the folks who graciously take us boating every year when we are all in Florida. They now have a small Class C and they parked it at Joe and Carolyn's while they were visiting us.
They had arrived around 11 and the 4 of us went to breakfast at a great little restaurant near us, Hometown. We had fun chatting and having a delicious meal. Then it was back to our condo for the "short" tour. They had wanted to stop by and see where we had purchased our Florida home on their way back to PA. We so appreciated them taking the time to stop by. We were together from about 11 to 1:30 before driving them back to Joe and Carolyn's to be on their merry way. They could have parked at our community, but they have a dog and needed a place where they could have the air conditioning running in their RV. We always enjoy spending time with them.
Because it was Ken's birthday, he announced that it was his choice what we did for the rest of the day. Sounded fair to me but we both enjoyed watching the Penn State/Pitt football game. What an exciting one! Ken took a brief nap and we went to Jason's Deli for their delicious salad bar. We had planned to go to the beach to watch the sunset, but it started to rain and that took that off the schedule. We went back to the condo for about an hour and then went to see the movie, Overcomer. Ken loves to go to movies and this was a great pick. It started a bit slow, but it ended up being a great movie with a fantastic message and a real tear jerker. We went to bed early.
Sunday we went to the 9:30 service at Edgewater and then we served as greeters for the 11:00 gathering. We both enjoyed that opportunity to serve. When arriving back home, we made a salad with all the fixings to take to Frank and Barb's new home in the Sarasota area. We got there at 2:30 and Rick and Joyce were already there. The 6 of us played a game of Hand and Foot, which the women won, before enjoying Frank's delicious lasagna and garlic bread. What a special treat! Then we enjoyed key lime pie and the key lime/mango pie that Rick and Joyce had brought for dessert - another frantastic treat! We played another game of Hand and Foot and the women were victorious again! I am not sure the men will want to play against us in the near future!
We got home at 11:15 and went directly to bed. What a fun time with special friends from PA who are now full time residents of Florida!

Our 1st Few Days in Florida!
Sunday morning we went to Edgewater Church for the 9:30 service and were so happy to see our Florida church family. We were given such a warm welcome "home"! Ken and I did our normal Sunday after church breakfast at the local Denny's and then drove to Sarasota to Costco for some food items and a TV. We spent the remainder of the day doing more unpacking and reorganizing and after making a Wal-Mart run for some additional groceries we went to bed rather early. We were still trying to "catch up" on the sleep we lost during our drive to Florida! I did chat with Doloris to wish Fred a successful surgery tomorrow on his shoulder.
Monday we did some additional errands and then I shopped for specific things for the condo. Ken went to CR that evening and I spent that time enjoying our home away from home!
Tuesday morning Ken and I went to Infinity to get information on internet and cable and then to the furniture store where we had bought our sofa and chairs when we had settled on the condo in June to try to find an entertainment center for the TV and 2 end tables. We had searched many stores without success and decided that Kane's had the furniture that matched what we had bought previously and we were tired of looking and trying to find the right wood and proper colors. So, we were thrilled to order those 3 items there and they had a 20% off sale - Yes! That afternoon Rick and Joyce came to visit and we had a great time "catching up" on life and then playing 3 games of double deck pinochle. The men won 2 out of 3 but we know it was good for their egos! They left around 10:30 and we went right to bed.
Wednesday morning we had breakfast with Joe and Carolyn from church and enjoyed talking about what all of us did this past summer. They took us back to their home for a tour and it is beautiful. They designed it and did a great job! That evening we went to the church for family night complete with a barbeque. Again we had the opportunity to connect with friends we had not seen for quite awhile. We were back to the condo by 8 in time to watch the eliminations on America's Got Talent. They have some exceptional "artists" this year.
Thursday Ken went to help set-up for the Food Pantry while I did some wash and made a batch of oat bran muffins. (I had to walk about 1/3 mile to the local Wal-Mart Marketplace for baking soda!) When Ken returned around 11:30 we had lunch and then went to pick-up our tables and entertainment center and our next door neighbor graciously offered to help Ken bring in the boxes! Then we spent 1 1/2 hours putting the tables together and arranging the LR. We are extremely happy with the results. Ken had dinner with about 8 men from the church at Metro Diner and I spent that time organizing the BR closets and packing up things for the church thrift shop. We spent the evening reading and watching some TV after a rather busy day.
Today,, Friday, we both worked at the church's Food Pantry from 9 to 12:45 and then about 15 of us went to lunch at Wild Wings. All the workers at the Food Pantry are wonderful people and we all get along so well. It is a joy to help there. Ken and I stopped and found a clock and floor lamp for the LR and then had to put the light together when we got home. We also hung several more things in the condo. This place is really beginning to feel like it is "ours"! I think the buying has just about come to an end - hallelujah! At 7:00, Bob and Carol from the church came to visit and play cards. They are wonderful people and we were so excited to spent the evening with them!

Back to our Second Home - Florida!
Well, it has been over a month since my last post and although many things have happened, the main thing is our return to Florida for about 5 1/2 weeks. We had planned to leave Lititz the Tuesday after Labor Day, but Hurricane Dorian changed those plans. Also, I had my yearly check-up at my primary Dr., and she didn't like a spot I showed her on my lip. To me, it looked very similar to my previous 2 sagamous cells and I was concerned. She highly recommended that I see my dermatologist or my dermatology surgeon before heading to Florida. Long story short, I was able to see my dermatologist that Tuesday and it was a small cyst and of no concern. Wow, was I ever relieved!
So we kept busy in Lititz until our departure at 3:15 AM on Friday morning! The car was so "packed" that we couldn't even find a place for a 6 pack of soda!! We decided to stay away from I-95 and the coast due to Dorian so we took I-81 to 77 and then headed toward Columbia, SC and into Georgia. It increased our trip by about 160 miles and it seemed like we would never get to I-75. We spent the night about 80 miles from the border of Florida right off the interstate, finally getting there around 7:30. We were both very tired and ready to call it a day.
We were on our way on Saturday morning by 7:45 and stopped at one of my favorite places, Sonny's Barbeque, for lunch. It was only about 10 minutes from our Condo so we arrived at 2:30. The remainder of the day was spent unloading the car and unpacking everything we had brought with us! By 9:30 we "fell" into bed excited and happy to be back to our 2nd home!
