Arrived at Letchworth State Park in NY

Ken and I were on our way to Letchworth by 6 AM yesterday, Thursday!  It was a very enjoyable 276 mile trip a lot of it along scenic Route 15.  PA really has some beautiful mountain areas! After stopping for a very slow service breakfast, we arrived at the CG in Letchworth SP by 12:30 and were not completely set-up when Sam and Kathy arrived.  Amazing how we do not follow each other when we travel, but we are usually within 30 to 45 minutes of each other!  The campsites are large, fairly level, and well shaded.  Only electric hook-ups, so I will need to be careful when showering.  I'd rather turn the water off and on then use the bathhouse.  Can't help it, that is just how I am!!!!

After getting all set-up, we all felt rather tired and somewhat "lazy", so we sat in the shade conversing!  Ken suggested that we might want to take a short hike and check out the dam and 2 of the vista overlooks.  It was now 4:30, so we were ready for the "challenge".  Of course Ken's short walk ended up being about 3 1/2 miles, but it was a lovely hike.  The trail wasn't well marked, but we found our way without too much trouble!  At the overlook at the dam, we got photos of a bald eagle.  He was only there a short time, so we felt very fortunate to see and photograph him.  The water was so low at the dam and a gentleman from the areas said he has never seen it so low and he comes here frequently.  Hard to imagine that when we had Hurricane Agnes, the water was 4 feet from the top of the dam.  Hogsback overlook was impressive and beautiful.

Hardly any water at the dam!

The Bald Eagle gave us quite a show!

Only had supper around 8:00 and called it a night by 9:30.  All that driving can make you tired!!!  Looking forward to more hiking on Friday!
