A fun filled, busy day with Sam and Kathy!

Sam and Kathy were here around 9:45 and after the men loaded all our bikes on their jeep, we headed to Bealls to pick up the clothes I had put on hold yesterday (they give a 15% discount to seniors on Monday, so the clerk recommended they hold them until today).  What a nice salesclerk.  Then we headed to Venice to have them try the award winning scones at the Upper Crust.  All 4 of us decided they are the best scones we have ever eaten.  I am sure there will be more of these scones in our near future.  Then we visited the Venice Chamber of Commerce to find out what special events were happening in the area and for info on the bike trails.

You can't resist these delicious scones!

Sam found a friend while eating scones!

On to Caspersen Beach to ride the Legacy Trail along the Intracoastal Waterway.  It is an unbelievably beautiful trail.  We got up close and personal with a majestic eagle guarding its nest.  After the 10 mile bike ride we spent about 2 hours walking the shoreline of Caspersen Beach looking for sharks teeth and pieces of shells.  Kathy found her 1st shark teeth!!!  Again, it was a very breezy day which started at 37 degrees and ended around 72.  It was a beautiful day to walk along the beach.  Then we drove to the pier just north of Venice to watch the sunset - gorgeous.

riding along the trail!

Not a bad place to eat a picnic lunch!

We love Caspersan Beach!

Hard at work looking for shell pieces and sharks teeth!

Enjoying the beautiful sunset!

Only got back to Willie around 7:30.  Had picked up a rotisserie chicken and then made salads and quinoa.  This morning I had baked a key lime pie from the juice of key limes I had bought at the Red Barn.  It was a Paula Dean recipe I found on the internet and we had some for dessert - so good!!!  By 9 we decided to call it a day.  We were all exhausted.  Looking forward to going to Fort DeSoto tomorrow.

  1. Miss you and Florida so much! Last time is our motto! At 2:30 AM Sunday night the propane ran out! Not a big deal it was only 18 degrees outside! Still can't figure out why they are working outdoors in this bad weather...never again. Had a wonderful visit with Scott & Sara on Sunday, that is a good reason to be here!! Mom & Dad are good...so I'll just smile and know the best is yet to come! Enjoy for me!

  2. Hi! Ken - great job with those pictures. I especially enjoy those sunsets, of course would enjoy them better yet if we were there! Good to see Sam & Kathy enjoying Florida w/ you. I am hoping to see some great sunrises and sunsets myself in a few days (probably will see more sunsets than sunrises, but who knows?)!
