Today We Helped Set a World Record!!!!!

Well, so much for planning a "relaxing" day.  We only got up around 8, which was so nice, and then we made and had breakfast outdoors.  It was another beautiful morning after a light shower for about 2 hours during the night.  We cleaned up and decided to go to the waterfront at Kingston for the Boice Brothers Dairy 100 Year Birthday Bash.  They wanted volunteers to help scoop ice cream to set a new record in the Guinness Book of Records for the largest ice cream sundae.  So we left the CG at 11:15, since you had to be there before 12:30 to be a part of the record setting festivities.

We waited in line for about 30 minutes to get a free t-shirt and be one of the "scoopers".  At that time they told us they had their 1000 volunteers and we could just go to watch the huge sundae being made and then enjoy eating the free ice cream.  We were disappointed, but headed to the watching area.  There were 200 tables with alternating tablecloths of red, white and blue along the waterfront.  There were 5 "scoopers" at each table, the necessary amount needed to complete making the sundaes in the 6 minute time limit.  Lucky for us, the table in front of us only had 2 people and they asked for volunteers to help scoop.  My hand went up immediately and I was ushered into the area.  Then they asked for another scooper and Ken got to join us.  They were out of t-shirts, but we didn't care - we were going to be a part of History!!!!  The sundae making was to begin at 1, but it only started at 1:45 and it was hot standing in the sun the entire time.  The tables stretched for 5 football field lengths (200 tables) and an ice cream truck went down the line dropping off 8 quarts of ice cream, a can of whipped cream, a bottle of chocolate syrup, and sprinkles to each table.  When they said go,  you scooped the ice cream into a continuous "trough" of cardboard lined with aluminum foil and all the scoops had to be touching.  Then you squirted it all with whipped cream, put on chocolate syrup, and then the sprinkles.  Then the mayor had to walk along all the tables to make sure it was one continuous sundae.  We set a new record!!!!!!  Then we scooped the "sundae" into individual cups and served all the folks who were there to watch.  What a fun time.  No souvenir t-shirt but we did get to ice cream scoops.  (We are easy to please!)

This is what the set-up looked like when we arrived at the
waterfront!

People in the line for volunteering!

Lots of people wanted to help "scoop"!

Wow!  Amazing!

The scoopers are lined up at their table and waiting for
the ice cream that took about an hour to be delivered!

Don't you love the hairnets?????

This is quite a fashion statement!

Here comes the ice cream truck!

This was each table's ice cream supply!

Not a bad setting to be part of history!!!!!

The sundae is completed!

Can you imagine all the work that was involved
to get this project completed.  Just setting up
the "trough" was a feat in itself!!!

The advertisement on the side of their ice cream truck!

Back to the CG by 3:30 and we went to meet a couple who arrived today and are part of Rvillage on the internet.  It is Cliff and Jane from New York and we spent about an hour talking with them.  They started full-timing in January and it really is a new adventure for them.  Before they bought this 5th wheel about a year ago, they had mostly tent camped or had a pop-up.

Ken and I played a game of pinochle (I won, but I must confess he won both games yesterday), ate dinner and then walked around the park to complete our 10,000 steps for today.  So much for relaxing!!!!!

Tomorrow we hope to drive to tour Franklin Roosevelt's home and one of the Vanderbilt's.  I guess tomorrow isn't a day of rest either!  Oh well, we are having a great time!
