What a Crazy, Busy Time!!!!

Well, I haven't updated this blog since we got home from Elk Neck, but so much has happened!!!!!

We have been debating what we want to do as far as housing, since we plan on doing a lot of RVing in the next 1 1/2 years including Florida this fall, snowbirding in Florida in the winter of 2015, and then heading out west from May to October of 2015.  So, we won't be in our home most of the time! Hence, a discussion about housing!

Before we had left for Florida this past winter we talked with a landlord in Lititz, a nearby town, and she added our name to a list of people looking to rent an apartment in her 8 unit building. We didn't expect to hear anything for quite awhile.  But, Tuesday a week ago, she called with availability for a 2nd floor apt.  At this time in our lives, we are "able" to go steps, so we were very happy to take a look at it.  Thus the saga begins!

This past Tuesday, we took a 2nd look, got measurements, shivered in our shoes, and signed a 1 year lease!  Lititz is one of the top 10 small towns in the US and Ken and I always said it would be a great place to reside!  So, we are excited about our decision but a bit nervous at the same time.  We had considered being "gypsies" for the next 1 1/2 years and living in our Motorhome.  But, we really want a place to come home to from Thanksgiving to Christmas and early April till we leave for the west, so we can spend time with our daughters and their families.  Renting an apartment seemed like the right solution.  We knew that we no longer want to maintain a home and do the necessary work both inside and out!

Today we listed our home and put the sign in the front yard!  It's official, we are moving.  The apartment is ours July 1st, so we are going to hope that our home sells quickly!  The last 1 1/2 weeks have been crazy getting the property ready for showing to prospective buyers.  We have done many things, several that should have been done many years ago.  Our garage, storage area, basement, etc., have never looked so good!  Gee, maybe we should stay - just kidding!!!!

We leave early tomorrow morning for the Escapade at Goshen Indiana.  Both of us are ready to relax and get away from here for awhile.  We are so tired! We know there will be plenty to do when we return - garage sales, getting some things ready for an antique auction, and sorting thru everything we own - but getting away from this for a short time is a needed change.   This is a big "downsize" for us and there is very little storage in the apartment, so we will have to be very "selective" with what we take with us.  Purging is the name of the game!!!  But, we can keep a lot more than if we would have chosen to live totally in our Motorhome!  At least that is what I keep telling myself!  We will hope the house gets shown and sold while we are away - wouldn't that be great!  We can only hope!!!!!

  1. Down sizing is a real pain, been there. It is always exciting and scary at the same time.
Sounds like we will passing each other next year. We are heading for New York for a wedding June of 2015. We will be back here in Congress the winter of 2014/15.

  2. That looks like a happy ending! I suppose transitioning to an apartment from a motorhome shouldn't be too hard, as long as living spaces and responsibilities are concerned. Downsizing could be the hard part, but considering that you did the RV life already, you already have an idea by now on which things are needed and which can be given away. I hope you don't get stressed out with this, though! Good luck!
