A Drive to St. George's Island!

Ken and  were up at 6:30 and I worked on downloading photos and writing the blog.  Ken did some reading.  He met Ernie and Chuck at 7:30 and they went for an hour walk.  Actually, Ernie had walked about 45 minutes before he met up with the boys.

While Ken was walking I did the prepping for breakfast and packed the things we needed to take with us today on our adventure.  When Ken returned, he cooked breakfast while I continued to get ready.  We actually ate our breakfast outside, which was a 1st for this trip - love it!!!

I cleaned up while Ken took our bike rack and bikes over to Ernie's truck.  He had volunteered to drive so that all 6 of us could ride together and carry all 6 bikes.  It makes the travel time so much fun!

Here is some of the scenery on our drive -

The water and sky seem to be one!

The long bridge we will take to Saint George Island

Just a few of the fishing boats we saw on our drive!

A view of the lighthouse when crossing over the bridge to
 Saint George Island!

This area is known for oysters and this is one of the piles
of oyster shells!

We drove about 30 minutes going over the long bridge onto St. George Island. We took the drive to the end of the island to enter St. George State Park.  We drove through the campground which was really rather isolated and a long drive from the center of the island.  If you stayed here, you would have to plan ahead.
We have arrived!

Many homes on the island and all of them are fairly high off
the ground.  I wouldn't want to be in this area during
a hurricane!

They are sitting very close to the water!

This State Park is rather large and very isolated.  Lots of
privacy in the CG and on the beach!

All of the sites are fairly private!

Then we headed to the beach area several miles from the CG.  We took our chairs and snacks onto the beach and then Ken and I took a walk looking for shells.  Numerous clam shells, but that was about all we found.

What a beautiful site!

Again, we had to fight the crowds to find a place to sit!

As far as you can see, we were about the only people on the
beach!

For the Gulf, it was rather rough and choppy!

Ken spotted this little guy on the beach.  Looks
rather adorable, but I decided not to hold him!!!!

We left the beach around 12:30 and drove to the center of the island looking for a place to have lunch.

If you look closely, you can see scallop shells and starfish
stamped in the concrete at the beach area!

The dunes on the island are huge!

Some attractive single condos on the Island!

We stopped at the Blue Parrot and were able to eat on the outdoor deck overlooking the Gulf.  A great view and delicious food. Chuck and Melissa ordered some oysters on the half shell with parmesan cheese so everyone could try them.  It was a first for Ernie and Noela.  This girl was kind and didn't try them so the "fish" people could have extras!   Ken got to have Grouper tacos and he was moaning and groaning over the tasty treat!!!!!

This was a very cute eatery!

Not a bad place to have a delicious lunch!

Oh boy!  Don't these things look appealing.  Not to this girl!!!

Our bellies are full and we are a happy bunch!!!!

Melissa tried again to help Noela with her lack of phone service, because according to the T-Mobile mapping, she should have had good service where we were located.  After a long conversation with T-Mobile and trying different things, they told Melissa there was a outage in this area.  It took them 20 minutes or more to realize that??????  Wow!!!!!  I think Ernie and Noela will go to AT&T or Verizon in Tallahassee when we leave here and see about getting coverage with one of them.

You can see the 3 ladies standing under the sign.  Melissa
is on the phone to T-Mobile while Noela and I are
just being supportive.  We will let the "tech guru" do her thing!

From St. George's we drove about 5 more miles west to Apalachicola.  What a quaint old town.  We stopped at Piggly Wiggly (don't you just love the name?) for a few groceries and got back to the CG at 4:15.  Didn't have time for a bike ride today.  Maybe tomorrow!

A closer photo of the lighthouse!

On the bridge when we were leaving Saint George Island

One of the many shrimping boats in the dock!

Ken and I had about 40 minutes of Skype time with Bria and Cali.  So good to see and talk to them.  Cali showed us a sign she made for us that said, "I miss you PaPa and Grandma.  I can hardly wait for you to come back".  How sweet!

I did some reading outside while Ken talked to a neighboring camper.  None of us were hungry, so we got together around 6 and all sat outside Waldo just chatting and enjoying some peanuts and crackers.  A good time was had by all!

We went inside at 8 and Ken went to bed at 8:45 to read.  I watched The Voice, downloaded photos, and worked on the blog.

Today was such a great day with special friends.  Most of the day was a bit overcast, but it was warm and we were on the beach.  What more is there to say???????
