More Bike Riding and Beach Walking

After a leisure morning, we made a cooked breakfast and the invited our neighbors, John and Suzanne, to join us for a cup of tea and some "chatting".  We knew they were leaving today and heading back home to Jacksonville.  We enjoyed getting to know them.  They are planning to retire the end of July and do more rving!  We tried to encourage them!  Duane and Louise stopped by to chat too, so a good time was had by all!

By 11:30 we drove to the convention center to park and begin our bike ride around the southern part of the island.  The convention center is new since we were here 4 years ago and very impressive.  They have done a great job with the landscaping too!  Yesterday we rode about 10 miles and today probably 8 1/2.  We rode around the perimeter of the island with a few detours on trails through the center part of the island.  Some of the areas are so beautiful.

The new Convention Center and surrounding area!

Gorgeous biking trails!

This spider was huge and had sharp like legs!

Love the Palmetto and Sabel palms

Lots of colorful butterflies on the island!

Part way through the ride, we stopped at eatery on the wharf so Ken could have a 1/2 lb. of local shrimp with a dip of butter and hot sauce.  It was even better than he remembered from 4 years ago.  More bike riding with a stop at the local Dairy Queen - what could be better???

Ken loved his shrimp and especially the sauce mixture
of butter and hot sauce.  He is NOT a cocktail sauce lover!

Then we went to St. Andrews Picnic/Beach area to walk and relax.  Did pick up some oyster shells - Ken thinks we should start painting the shells to look like Santa faces.  I told him that could be his contribution for sales at our craft shows.  We shall see!!

Ken loves his "sea birds"!

Lots of locals do net shrimping on the island.
Also lots of shrimp boats in the area!

Back to Willie by 5 after stopping at a small IGA here on the island - the only place to get groceries on Jekyll.  There are a couple small gifts shops, beauty salon, small hardware store, the Dairy Queen, 1 very reasonable gas station, & a very small Liquor Store.  That is about the only commercial places here - seems strange, but nice!

Looking for another relaxing, quiet evening.  Life is Good!!!!
