Trip with Curvette Ladies to PA Grand Canyon!

Polly was by to pick me up at 6:30 on Sunday morning and we drove to meet the other 5 Curvettes at Linda's house in Akron.  By 7:15 we were on our way in 2 cars with Marcia and Polly as our "chauffeurs"!

We stopped after about 1 1/2 hours of driving at the Ranch House Restaurant for a delicious breakfast.  Then back on the road for 1 more stop before arriving at Linda's family cabin on Pine Creek in Waterville, PA.  If you were willing to wade across Pine Creek that borders the back of her property, you would be on the Pine Creek Rail Trail. This spectacular 62 mile trail is gently graded, graveled, and winds through the beautiful Pine Creek Gorge.  Ken and I have ridden bike and hiked on this trail numerous times!  The view from her property is amazing and so peaceful.  The cabin/home was built by her father in 1978, but her family has been coming to this area many years prior!  It is easy to see why Linda loves coming here for rest and relaxation.

Upon arrival, we unloaded the vehicles, unpacked, and picked our beds for the next 2 nights.  Her cabin sleeps about 20, so we had plenty of options for the right bed and the right roommate.  Then of course, it was time to check out the snacks and food we had brought, so we ate lunch.

The 7 of us got into Marcia's van and we drove about 35 minutes to Upper Pine Bottom State Park to the overlook area.  What a beautiful site!  It has been listed as one of the top 10 most scenic areas in PA and it didn't disappoint.  On the return trip we stopped at Happy Acres Resort for some delicious Perry Ice Cream.  The 2 huge dips they gave you for under $2.50 was crazy!

Back to the cabin and a Kubb tournament began.  We had so much fun and around 6 we called it a tie!  We left at 6:30 and enjoyed a delicious meal at the Waterville Tavern less than 2 miles from the cabin.  After dinner we changed to our "jammies" and we spent the evening playing games.  There was so much laughter and fun.  Most of us were up until 11:30, but there were a couple "party poopers!".

We got up at "scattered" times on Monday morning, chatted over coffee, had a delicious breakfast, got dressed and were on our way to Thadaghton Forest Resource Management Center to get some pamphlets, enjoy their displays and learn additional info about the area.  It was just a short distance from the cabin.

A view from the visitor's center!

Upon our return, we enjoyed lunch and then we drove to one of the trailheads and enjoyed a 3 mile hike.  It was a gorgeous day to walk - in the upper 60's and sunny.

Linda's son just settled on this lot just 2 sites away from her
cabin!  What a setting!  He plans on building a home on it
hopefully in the spring!

This is the back of Linda's cabin as seen from the rail trail!

The Curvettes - such special friends!

It's hard to tell, but Polly stayed at the cabin while we
walked the trail and she is sitting on the swing behind
Linda's cabin!

When we got back, another Kubb tournament began with the same teams as the day before.  This time Nancy, Shirley and I were victorious.  We had so much fun.  We went to dinner around 6 at the restaurant/lodge at Happy Acres.  Again the food was very good and the prices reasonable.

I am so thankful to be a part of this group of special ladies!

Back to change for bed and the games began - more laughs and craziness!  Some of the group went to bed around 9:30 with the rest of us continuing the game playing till about 11.  What an exceptional 2 days!

I will be getting more photos from other Curvettes to add to these blogs in the next couple days!
