Saturday - Absolutely Gorgeous Day!

The morning started out rather cool, in the upper 40's, but by early afternoon it was close to 70 with lots of sunshine.  Definitely the best weather day we have had since leaving home.

Ken was up at his usual time and did his reading, but he did get about an extra 1/2 hour of sleep on the couch!  I woke at my magic time, 7 AM to watch the news, or so I thought.  But in this area there is no national news on a Saturday morning on the major 3 networks.  That was a surprise!

We had a leisure morning of getting ready and then making omelettes for breakfast.  After some chatting and planning for the day, we packed a few snacks and water and left the CG around 10 to go to York Beach, where they have some interesting shoppes and a nice beach area.  It is also a very beautiful drive. We enjoyed going in and out of several of the shoppes but didn't buy anything, not even a snack or coffee!

This shop sits in the middle of the town between 2
streets and is famous for their Goldenrod salt water taffy
  and old fashioned soda fountain!

Making their delicious salt water taffy!

York Beach!

Our next stop was the Nubble Lighthouse, Ken's favorite of all the one's we have seen throughout our journeys.  It is a fantastic setting, but unfortunately they are doing a major restoration of the lighthouse which includes repainting.  They had scaffolding and netting all around it.  We bought a pin for displaying in Wilbur and went to a nearby ice cream shop, Dunne's for delicious Maine Salted Caramel Ice Cream.  We had enjoyed their ice cream 4 years ago when we were here with Sam and Kathy so we knew it was a "must stop"!

Nubble Lighthouse!

This is as close as you can get for viewing!

Not a bad backdrop for a wedding!

Looks fairly calm.....

...but there was lots of wave action!

A very nice visitor's center at the Lighthouse!

We continued our drive along the coastline to South Beach, which we just viewed from the car, and then stopped at Hartley Mason Park to do the Cliff Walk, which we had also done 4 years ago with Sam and Kathy.  It really is a must see!  The views from this path are amazing!  Watching the waves crash into the large rocks and then create quite a spray is breathtaking.

The beginning of the walk along the rocky coastline!

We sat on a rock for quite awhile just enjoying the waves
and their spray over the rocks!

What a great action shot!!!!  Go, Ken!

Some beautiful homes in the area with tremendous views!

Ken and I just love the views from these walkways!

This is the beach area but high tide allows no room for sunbathing!

We also got to view about 10 monarch butterflies along the trail, probably on their migration to Mexico!

Monarch butterflies on these flowers makes for great photos!

We made one additional stop on the way back to Wilbur at a well-known bakery in the area to get dessert to take to Burt and Pat's tonight.

We returned around 3:15 and Ken did some reading while I did my devotions, downloaded photos, and worked on this blog.  At 5 we drove to Burt and Pat's for a delicious dinner of salad, a Mexican Black Bean Soup, and fresh baked cornbread.  We planned to play Hand and Foot, but we had such a great time talking, that before we knew what happened it was 9:15 and time to head back to Wilbur.  What a great evening!

We went to bed as soon as we returned, did some reading, and it was lights out by 10:45!
