Saturday - Cloudy Day But A Bit Cooler!

Ken was up and reading when I came out to watch the news after doing my stretches and exercises.  After the news, we ate breakfast and got ready to go for a walk, but before leaving, we wrote a letter to one of the children we sponsor in Sudan.  We had recently received a letter from Susan and we wanted to response to her and send some photos.

We left for a walk around 9:30 and our neighbor, Donna, decided to walk downtown with us.  We stopped at the post office to mail some cards and letters.  Then we strolled around Lititz Springs Park and what a flooded area.  Parts of it were roped off and the ducks were swimming where there is usually grass.  That poor park has been flooded at least 3 times this summer and two of the town's big events, the antique show and the art show, were canceled this year.  We could not believe how high the water had been yesterday and how flooded it still remained.

The water "spilled" over the edge of the pond onto the walkway.

You can see the water line under the windows of this building
along the walkway in the park.

We stopped at Dosie Dough so Ken and Donna could get a cup of coffee.  Back to the apartment by 11:15 and by 12 they were installing my new washer - that was fast!

After lunch, Ken read and rested while I did my devotions and worked on this blog.  We both left at 2:30 - Ken to go to his Step Study and I went to a roadside market and then to Wal-Mart.  I met Lanie's family at Shady Maple so I could bring Katelyn and Samantha home with us for the weekend.  Bob and Lanie are invited to a Scandinavian Festival all day tomorrow to demonstrate Kubb, which originated in Sweden!  They did it last year too and had a good time.

The girls and I were back home by 4:45 and they helped me unload their things and my groceries. The girls enjoyed playing with the mega blocks (Barbie set) until Ken arrived with pizza for dinner.  After eating the delicious pizza from Roma, the 4 of us walked downtown to get ice cream 1st stopping at a fountain in honor of my great uncle, Bill Fry.  He had a Pontiac Car Dealership here in Lititz when I was growing up.

This is the fountain in honor of
my Great Uncle Bill.

Lititz is also the town where my mother grew up, went to school, and Dad and Mom got married in the Lutheran Church here.  My grandmother actually worked for over 25 years in the old shoe factory that is next store to our apartment.  It is now renovated and a personal residence!   So, we have quite a Lititz history.   Ken and I really love Hershey's Mint Moose Tracks (it has mini mint cups plus fudge swirl) and they had it tonight at Isabelle's Ice Cream Shop.  Katelyn's favorite is Mint Chocolate Chip but she decided to try our favorite and thought it was fantastic.  Samantha enjoyed the regular Moose Tracks.

Oh, so YUMMY!

We walked through town and then down to the park to see how much the water had receded from this morning - quite a difference!  You could actually go through the park on the walkways!  The grassy areas still had water and it was extremely muddy, but the water was fairly contained in the waterways!

Wow, these leaves are huge!  Samantha called it her beard!
I was reminded of the Garden of Eden!

Another fountain in downtown Lititz at the General Sutter Inn!

....and a 3rd fountain in the center of town!

This is the Bullshead Tavern at the General Sutter Inn.  The
hanging flowers are so beautiful!

A touch of Mexico in downtown Lititz!

Checking out the shops!

Caramel covering large marshmallows.  A bit of
chocolate too!  If only the store was open!

The girls were disappointed that Candy Ology was closed!

We were back home by 7:45 and Katelyn continued playing with the mega blocks while Samantha played on my tablet.  I worked on the blog and we got their bed ready!  By 9:15 we all went to bed, but the girls were awake and "active" till about 10:15 when we told them they had to stop talking and go to sleep!  It was a good day!
