Saturday - Kubb Tournament Today!

Ken was up at his usual time and I got up at 6:15 to do my exercises and stretches.  We got ready for the day and then had breakfast.  It was a bit overcast and some rain predicted for later in the afternoon, so we packed our raincoats and an extra pair of shoes.  Fortunately, we never needed them!

We left at 8:15 and were on our way to Elverson (near Lanie and Bob's) for the East Coast Kubb Tournament.  Bob organizes and runs this event and he does a great job.  It really is a lot of work if you want it to run smoothly.  There were 19 teams from numerous states.  Ken and I agreed to play again this year (we played in the 1st one last year) just to be supportive.  Our family used to play a lot of Kubb throughout the year, but not too much any more.  So, Ken and I had really only played about 2 or 3 times since last year's tournament.  Not a good thing.

Lanie, Samantha, and Katelyn were there helping to run the event.  Samantha was in charge of the computer program which included checking in the teams, recording the scores, and pulling up the charts showing the team match-ups for play.  She took her job very seriously and did it well!

Samantha working the computer!

Her friend was there to give her support!

Jamie came to support her sister and Bob and help with the 50/50 drawing and the one where the winner got a Kubb set, t-shirts, and a hat.  Katelyn liked helping there too!  Ken and I enjoyed watching Lanie and Jamie working together and having so much fun!

Katelyn was a helper with the raffle tickets!

These 2 had a great time working together!

Registration began at 9 and then there was a time of demonstrating the rules and proper placing of the Kubb's before the teams took the field for the start of the tournament.

Time to hear the rules from the coordinator, Bob!

Ken and I needed some "nourishment" before taking the food and Jamie provided us with just the right thing - donuts from the Akron Shop-Rite!  Lanie needed one too!!!

We lost our 1st game but won the 2nd won (it was a bye for us, but still a win!).  Around that time, a good friend of ours, Marcia Kreider, came just to be a spectator.  Over the years, Ken and I had taught Kubb to many of our friends and my father even made many sets that were bought by our friends.  So, Marcia was familiar with the game and had a interest in seeing how it is played by the "pros"!  It was so nice of her to come and be supportive.

Let's just say it wasn't at great day for the Hoslers.  The bye ended up being the only game we won - WOW, but we did have a lot of fun and had a few games that were fairly close.
Lots of participants!

I believe Bob knows what he is doing!

Precision is the name of the game!

Ken had to leave at 2:15 for his Step Class, so Marcia became my partner for the last 3 games.  I appreciated her willingness to play and we did have a lot of fun.

Okay, Marcia, let's show them how it is done!

What form!

Marcia was a great partner!

Katelyn was our cheerleader!

Marcia had agreed to give me a ride when we were finished playing and take me to the church where Ken had his class. So, we left at 3:15 and had a great time chatting during the drive.  We were at the church by 4 and I went to a nearby roadside stand to get some fruit and sweet corn for our camping trip.  Ken was finished with his class by 4:45 and we headed home.

After showers, I made us salads for dinner and we also had some Mexican bowls from Costco.  I worked on this blog and Ken open the windows in Wilbur (he was so hot) and started the refrigerator.  We will wait until tomorrow morning to do the majority of the loading.  We decided to go to 10:45 church instead of 9 so we can load in the morning and then Lanie will meet us at Wal-Mart, near the church at noon, so we can get Samantha and Katelyn.  We can't get into the CG till about 3, so we will be all ready to go, hopefully leaving at 1:15 or so.

We did get a call from Lanie and the actual tournament only ended at 7 with some of the championship games going on "forever"!  It was a long day for her family, but a very successful and well run tournament!

By 9 we were in bed to do some reading.  It was a fun day!
