Another Gorgeous Day to Spend with Barry and Deb!

Ken and I were up by 7 and got ready for the day.  We made omelettes for breakfast and after cleaning up, walked over to Ernie and Noela's to discuss what we all did yesterday and our plans for today.  We told them that we would like the 6 of us to get together tonight so they can meet Barry and Deb!  That is the plan!!!!

We picked up Barry and Deb at 9:30 and drove to the Maxine Barritt Park across from the airport at Venice.  We walked the 3/4 mile path and enjoyed the views of the beach and the birds!

Looking at the fishing pier at Sharkeys!

What a nice spot for a photo!

It really is a beautiful park!

Never saw a great Blue Heron drying
his/her wings!  Looks strange!

A commorant!

Looks silly from this view!

We drove through downtown Venice and then to the North Jetty where we walked to the end of the Jetty and enjoyed the view of the beach.  (I had to spend just a few minutes looking for sharks teeth.  What can I say!  The ocean and sand just call me!)

Looking at Nokomis Beach from the North Jetty!

Walking on the North Jetty!

Back in the car to take a slow drive along Casey Key Road to check out all the mansions!  Barry and Deb had never been on that road and really enjoyed the drive.  We stopped at Casey Key Fish House for lunch, another place they had never been to!  The 3 of them agreed that the blackened grouper was delicious!  I had a hamburger!  No fish or seafood for this gal!

Waiting for our delicious food!

From there we drove to Myakka State Park where we saw lots of alligators and birds -

They backed in to park!

This was a big guy!!!

Look at those beady eyes!

A Blue Heron!

A Limpkin!

A glossy ibis!

...and then enjoyed walking the Canopy Trail where we went across the swinging bridge and climbed the tower.  Love that trail.  We also drove through the camping are that has full hook-ups and such private campsites!

Walking the canopy trail!

Arriving at the towers and swinging bridge!

I like walking across this bridge!

Looking down at Barry from near the top of the tower!

What a view!

It is a very tall tower!

We left the park around 4:15 and saw a large bottle nosed turtle as we were leaving.

Bottle nosed turtles have soft shells.....

and lots of pink!  Very unique looking!

We decided we should find a Starbucks for Deb and Barry and McDonald's for Ken and me.  As we headed to the nearest Starbucks we were amazed that a McDonald's was next door - wow, 2 birds with one stone!!!!  We were four happy folks enjoying our "treats".  (Of course mine was a chocolate shamrock shake!)

We dropped of Barry and Deb at their campsite and then Ken and I loaded our bikes for a ride tomorrow!  I walked down to chat with Ernie and Noela and hear about their day!  I also invited them to come to Wilbur this evening to meet Barry and Deb.

We watched the news and Ken took a short nap.  Being a tour guide is a tiring job for Ken because he takes it very seriously and wants to make sure everyone is having a great time!  He does a wonderful job and is so patient!h

The 4 of them came to Wilbur from 8 to 9:45 and we had a great time chatting. Ken and I learned a lot about Canada from their conversations, which was great. Deb had hiked the 500 mile Bruce Trail in 2004 and so we enjoyed hearing about that adventure!  So glad the four of them got to meet each other!
