Fun Day on Pine Island with Special Friends!

Ken and I made breakfast, packed some snacks and drinks, and were on our way to Pine Island by 9:00.

We met Rick and Joyce (from our small group at home) at Dollar General on Burnt Store Road around 9:45.  They followed us to the place where we see the burrowing owls and one of them was out of his burrow posing for us.

We left there and drove to the center of Pine Island and parked at the pool.  We unloaded our bikes and were on our way to ride to the northern part of the island - Bokeelia.  We made several stops including the marina at Jug Creek, and then finding more coconuts and stacking them to pick up after our bike ride. It was a perfect day for a ride with plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the low 70's.

These are star fruit trees under netting!

The fruit had already been picked and these were rotted ones
on the ground.  None for eating!

One of the many palm plantations/nurseries!

Trimming and sorting oysters!

On the fishing pier at Bokeelia!

We loaded our bikes on our vehicles after riding 18 miles.  We all got in our CRV and went back to pick-up the coconuts.  Then it was off to the southern side of the island to enjoy another late lunch at Low Key Tiki Hut.  It was delicious and such a nice setting along the canal.

Enjoying the food and setting at the Low Key Tiki Hut!

We stopped at the St. Jude Trail and just walked in a short distance to get more palm branches for the fish tails.  (Does this sound like a familiar story????).  A gentleman jogging by invited us to walk through the lot adjacent to his house where his "master garden" wife had made it into a beautiful area with native vegetation, sitting areas, etc.  It really was beautiful.

Ken got another great photo of the eagle near St. Jude Trail!

What a fun coconut fish!

Walking through the beautiful lot beside the "joggers" house!

Looks inviting!

Beautiful!

We drove into Matlacha to check-out some of the shops but it was 4:45 and the shops closed at 5.

This is Leoma Lovegrove's van.  She is one wild artist who loves
lots of color!   Those are the glasses she wears!  Ken and I
renewed our wedding vows in her gallery on Valentine's Day
7 years ago for our 40th wedding anniversary!

This is a miniature truck and airstream camper outside one of
the shops!  Kids could sit in it!

We parted ways at 5:20 and Ken and I got back to Harbor Lakes at 6:20.  We did make a stop at McDonald's for a Shamrock Shake - Hey, it is St. Patty's Day!!!!!

We unloaded the car, watched the news, and I went to play pickleball.  There were only 5 of us there and I got to play 3 games in about an hour.  It was one of my best pickleball playing since we arrived.  Felt great and so much fun!

Ernie and Noela stopped by to asked about our day and to talk about what they did.  Neither of them felt great today, but they did walk across the bridge at Punta Gorda and have lunch outside along the water.

Ken and I showered, watched some TV, and were in bed by 9:30.  It was another very special day with special friends.  Thanks Rick and Joyce for a fun time together!  This was their 1st time on Pine Island and I can safely say that they will go back!
